SHIM Art Network, in partnership with TSDAP and Susak Expo, is pleased to announce an open call to visual artists in all media for applications to exhibit their work online in In Situ /In Place.
In Situ / In Place is a living and ongoing record of how artists around the world have responded to sheltering in place during the Covid-19 pandemic. While the format of the project will primarily be manifested as an e-catalog / digital exhibition, the project more importantly exists as a conceptual framework for expanding how we understand the creative process and an examination of the ways artists were thinking about their own practices during this historic moment and how they continue to adapt. In Situ / In Place will disclose the ways in which all artists had to accommodate the changes and limitations presented by the virus, and the ways each artist has overcome these challenges.
The artworks presented in In Situ / In Place should not be seen as something simply made during this time, but more about art made specifically for a certain place - wherever one was sheltering in situ, referring to the artwork produced and situated in an original, natural, or proper place or position. The project then, is a record of those things, acts, gestures, videos, performances, or objects, but also imbued with a sense of place and time.
