Dear Collier County Planning Commissioner Fryer,I am writing you today to express my opposition to the One Naples application as it is currently proposed. Before telling you my reasons, however, I do want to express my thanks to you for your willingness to thoroughly hear the comments of both sides of the debate. My hope is for your thoughtful consideration of all the concerned residents and beach goers that frequent Vanderbilt Beach. I am opposed because, as has been so well documented, the plan is neither complimentary to nor compatible with the neighborhood. These shortcomings center primarily on height, mass, setbacks, and open space. As designed, One Naples promotes a Miami-like, canyon-like feeling that is the total opposite of the neighborhoods’ desires. The developer’s belief that by providing rooftop amenities such as cabanas and swimming pool is satisfying open space requirements, is totally absurd. Open space is to be enjoyed by all the people, not just the select few who can afford such an expensive “first class” residence. I am equally put off by the developer’s endless threat of a commercial development replacing his outrageous towers. Frankly, a commercial development constricted by the C-3 zoning requirements offers all the neighborhood’s residents an acceptable walkable/bikeable amenity as opposed to a development that benefits only the developer and his 172 customers.
