The Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Program was authorized by U.S. Congress in 1986 to honor Senator Barry Goldwater by establishing in his name an endowed recognition program to foster and encourage excellence in science and mathematics. In Spring 2023, the Goldwater Foundation will award undergraduate scholarships of up to $7,500 to Barry Goldwater Scholars for use during the 2023-2024 academic year. The awards will be made on the basis of merit to two groups of students: those who will be college juniors and those who will be college seniors in the 2023-2024 academic year who have outstanding potential and intend to pursue research careers in mathematics, the natural sciences, or engineering.
