Please describe your background and business experience.
I’m the CEO and Chief Brand Officer of Strategar, a boutique advertising agency focused on helping brands connect with communities. I believe in the power of the collective as a strong force and is personally committed to working with brands that are not only for profit, but for a more meaningful purpose as well.
Prior to founding Strategar, I spent 14 years leading account management and insights teams for large brands including: Univision, Chevrolet, Bank of America, and Avocados From Mexico. Since establishing Strategar in 2013, my company has focused on four key industries including: agriculture, food service, education and public health. Her team has developed campaigns for entities including Texas Department of Agriculture, TEGNA, GO TEXAN (a consumer-packaged goods program to support local producers), Food4Less (a Kroger company), The University of North Texas System, UNT Dallas, and Dallas College.
Please describe the areas of expertise you can bring to assist the Board of Directors.
I bring a diverse skillset with a focus on B2B communication strategies, consumer marketing and development of advertising campaigns. My company offers full-service advertising expertise including, market research services, campaign development and design services, some of which have been provided pro-bono to the D/FW MSDC Council. In 2017, my company designed the 45th anniversary logo that was used for the council to celebrate the milestone. Additionally, in April 2020 we developed a proprietary quantitative survey associated with CARES Act funding for small and minority-owned businesses. I personally developed the questionnaire and tabulated the results in a summary presentation in five working days. I was delighted to learn that the results helped the council lobby on behalf of members and results were sent to area House of Representatives for round 2 of Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). We are planning for a follow-up survey after the election to get a better pulse on MBE sentiment and their overall outlook for the next 3-6 months.
Please list any and all Council and personal achievements that would demonstrate your readiness to hold this position.
Giving back is not only part of my work life, it is just how I operate. I believe in rolling up my sleeves and doing the hard work because “If not us, then who?”. I bring over 20+ years in marketing and advertising experience to D/FW MSDC. I have led countless panels including the American Advertising Federation, SXSW and D/FW MSDC’s 2020 ACCESS Panel. I was also recognized as one of the top 25 women in advertising or “Shining Star” by the Dallas/Fort Worth American Advertising Federation chapter. In 2019, I was also the recipient of the BTTBU Capacity Award. The funds were utilized for me to attend two virtual courses at Harvard Extension including one on Ethical Leadership and the second on Advanced Business Strategy.
This position is designed to represent ALL MBEs associated with the Council and not your own personal or business interest. How do you intend to ensure you are representative of ALL?
I wholeheartedly believe in using my personal and professional strengths to strengthening the position of minority owned companies in our region. In my business we look to work with other fellow MBEs as subcontractors and vendors. I continue to be in awe of the great work the D/FW MSDC does on behalf of companies like mine, and I hope to bring my expertise in B2B marketing and market research to continue to serve all MBEs.
