Description
The Eastern Nursing Research Society (ENRS) recognizes excellence in implementing nursing research in the practice setting by awarding the Evidence-Based Practice Award. This award is given to an individual or a nurse-led group using research-based evidence to make a practice change that results in demonstrated improvement in outcomes for the patient and family, staff, community, or organization. The Evidence-Based Practice Award is designed to encourage the use of best practices to improve the safety and quality of patient care or the improvement of patient care systems.
Award Eligibility
- The individual or nurse leader of the group implementing the evidence-based practice (EBP) project must be an active member of ENRS.
- The evidence-based practice project that is the basis for submission must have been completed within the past two years or completed within the past five years with re-evaluation of outcomes within the past two years.
- Current members of the ENRS Board of Directors or Awards Committee are ineligible.
Award Criteria
Individuals or groups will be expected to describe their project as follows:
- Describe the practice problem or issue including available relevant internal evidence (data).
- State the focused practice question.
- Describe the process used to search for evidence to answer the practice question.
- Critically appraise and synthesize the evidence.
- Include the practice recommendations for implementation.
- Describe the protocol for the evidence-based practice change.
- Describe the methods for implementing the protocol.
- Describe the methods for evaluating the effectiveness of the change, including any instruments that were used to monitor processes or measure outcomes.
- Present the results of the evaluation of the practice change (include findings, interpretation of findings, recommendations based upon findings). If this is an application with a re-evaluation, discuss the initial evaluation, if any changes to the protocol were implemented (include supporting evidence), and the re-evaluation.
- Describe the measurable benefits to patients/families/nurses/community/clinical agency.
- Describe the sustainability of the practice change:
- What is the length of time it’s been in place?
- What demonstrates that the change is likely to become, or has become institutionalized
Proposals must follow these formatting requirements:
- Maximum of eight (8) single-spaced pages, excluding references
- (Font size and margins: 12-point font size, 0.5-inch margins
- References should be cited in APA format.
- The final document must be submitted in a single PDF
These documents must be submitted along with the proposal application:
- Two letters of support from individuals with direct knowledge of the EBP project (one-page limit for each)
- Each team member’s up-to-date Biosketch in NIH format inclusive of their personal statement identifying their setting and role they played in the EBP project (each limited to three pages)

Email notifications will go out in late February 2021. Winners will be formally recognized on Thursday, March 25, 2021, during the Opening Keynote Presentation of the 33rd Annual Scientific Sessions.
