  • A recommendation for an award may be submitted by any member of the College, in good standing with the AOCOO-HNS, having knowledge of an act, achievement, or service of another member or candidate in training which may warrant such award. 

    Timely recommendation is essential to a successful awards system. A recommendation must be submitted as soon as possible following the act, achievement, or service upon which it is based. All recommendations must be appropriately justified and sufficiently detailed to allow proper evaluation and decision. 

  • Summary of action is the part of the recommendation required in all cases and is the most important element since each recommendation is evaluated on the merits of the justification therein. An objective summary giving specific examples of the performance and manner of accomplishing it together with the results and benefits derived should be presented. The specific elements of the nominee's performance should be listed in a straight forward statement of fact. When detailing accomplishments consider the nominee’s initiative, originality, dedication, and perseverance in achieving the specific accomplishment, or in performing a service, and weigh the impact of the achievement considering its effect on the College and our profession. The amount of detail and supporting documentation required will depend on the circumstances and nature of the award being recommended.
