Terms of this Agreement

Adopter to review and complete the below terms
1. In consideration of the premises and the mutual covenants contained in this agreement, the parties agree as follows: The adopted cat, as described above, shall be kept in the adopter’s personal possession and humanely treated.*

2. The cat shall not used for breeding, sale, experimental, or vivisection purposes.*

3. The cat must be provided good quality food, fresh water, safe shelter, and kind treatment at all times.*

4. I will notify AVA of any change of address or telephone number for one year from the date of adoption.*

5. If I am no longer able to care for the cat, the cat must be returned to AVA. The cat shall not be given away, sold, or surrendered to any municipal pound, humane society, rescue organization, or research centre for any purpose, nor shall the cat be rehomed without consent from AVA.*

6. This cat will not be declawed as it is an inhumane and unnecessary procedure.*

7. The cat is being adopted as an indoor companion/house pet. It will not be allowed to roam free outdoors.*

8. If the cat becomes lost, I agree to immediately attempt to locate the cat, and if not found within 24 hours, to notify AVA and my local animal control.*

9. The cat has been adopted, not purchased, for the total non-refundable adoption donation outlined above, and I will be the legal owner.*

10. It is recommended that the adopted cat be kept in a separate room for 7 days before being introduced to other animals in your home.*

11. At the time of adoption, you will receive health records and a vaccination certificate signed by the attending veterinarian.*

12. Although AVA has taken all precautions, it cannot guarantee the health or disposition of the adopted animal.*

13. AVA is responsible for the initial veterinary check-up which includes: first round of age appropriate vaccines at the time of adoption, spay/neuter, deworming and microchip only, as required. Testing for FIV or FeLV is not included unless otherwise specified. Cats may be exposed to zoonotic diseases and symptoms of these diseases may not be noticeable prior to adoption. Some animals may be carriers of these diseases and never show symptoms. Elimination of parasites and worms may require more than the two rounds of treatment administered by AVA. All additional vaccines and boosters (including kitten boosters) and other veterinary costs are the responsibility of the new owner.*

14. Concerns regarding an adopted cat’s health must be reported to AVA within the first 7 days of adoption. AVA is not responsible for any veterinary bills after adoption.*

15. I will continue to give the animal annual, regular, and emergency veterinary care as required.*

16. This animal has been spayed/neutered OR AVA will spay/neuter this animal at 5-6 months of age if it is in good health, or when deemed healthy, at an AVA designated vet clinic. If I choose to have the cat sterilized by my own veterinarian, I will provide AVA with a copy of the original vet bills and will receive reimbursement at the rescue rate.*

17. This contract may be specifically enforceable by AVA through judicial proceedings, including the right of AVA to recover the animal due to any breach of any terms of this contract. I agree that in the event I breach this contract and AVA files suit to enforce or to defend any claim under this contract, that I will pay any court costs and attorneys’ fees incurred by AVA in connection herewith.*
