  • JENNI HOUSE ARTIST RESIDENCY: 

    The Jenni House Artist Residency is now accepting applications for residencies between May 2021 and September 2021. Deadline for applications is February 15th, 2021 at 11:59PM PDT. Late applications will not be accepted.

    Professional and emerging artists from the Yukon, northern neighbours (northern BC, Northwest Territories and Nunavut) and circumpolar countries are encouraged to apply. Jenni House is an ideal space for artistic collaboration and joint residency applications are accepted. Remote residencies are also an option during this time, due to Covid-19.

    Monthly residencies are open to all practices. Selected artists practicing in the fields of visual art, film and media, music, literary arts, spoken word and multi-disciplinary/multi-media will be awarded a one month residency and

    • an honouria of $1000.
    • $100 material allowance for public engagement (ie supplies for workshops, food for reception etc)
    • Rural/Out of town Yukon artists are offered an allowance towards travel ($250), accommodation ($1000) and subsistence ($600) if applicable.
    • Artists from outside the Yukon are offered an allowance towards travel (up to $1,000), accommodation ($1000) and subsistence ($600) if applicable.

    ABOUT THE JENNI HOUSE ARTIST RESIDENCY:

    The Jenni House Artist Residency provides artists with a studio in an historic log and timber frame building in Whitehorse, Yukon. The studio is located on the banks of the Yukon River in Shipyards Park just downstream of the Kwanlin Dun Culture Centre and is situated in the traditional territories of the Kwanlin Dun First Nation and the Ta’an Kwäch’än Council.

    The Jenni House Artist Residency studio is wheelchair accessible and has wheelchair accessible washroom facilities. There is no internet at the Jenni House, but free public access to wifi is available nearby at the Whitehorse Public Library.

    Operating since 2015, the Jenni House Artist Residency is organized by the umbrella arts organization, ArtsNet, and is supported by a collective of Yukon-based arts organizations including: the Yukon Arts Centre, Yukon Film Society, Jazz Yukon, and Music Yukon. These groups gratefully acknowledge the support received from Culture Quest, Arts Fund and the City of Whitehorse that make the Jenni House Artist Residency possible.

  • Please provide a current CV or bio including education history, awards, professional achievements, public presentations and related experience.

  • Support Material:

  • You can submit a maximum of three supporting documents, plus up to five images, audio or video files with this application form. A numbered image list is to include artist, title, medium, dimensions/duration, and date.

    Supporting documents should only be used to submit information not found in the application form.

    File Specifications:

    - Supporting documents must be in .PDF format

    - Images must be in JPEG format, at a maximum resolution of 300 dpi

    - Video works can be linked from vimeo, youtube etc

    - Audio must be in .MP3 or .WAV format

    - Files should not exceed 3MB in size


    Image uploads should be labelled as:

    LastName_FirstName_Title_Medium_year.jpeg (i.e. Smith_John_Untitled_AcrylicOnCanvas_2017.jpg)

  • Below are the guidelines for applying to the Jenni House Residency. Please read them carefully.

    Eligibility:

    - Open to professional and emerging artists from the Yukon, northern neighbours (northern BC, Northwest Territories and Nunavut) and circumpolar countries.

     Eligible Projects:

    Residencies are available for research, development and production of ongoing or new bodies of work. Projects must be appropriate for the Jenni House (approximately 18’ x 18’) and are most suitable if they do not require access to specialized equipment. Some projects would be more suited to the warmer summer months, May – August. There are no opening windows in the Jenni House. The building has an alarmed security system.

     Projects may be undertaken by:

    • visual artists such as painters, sculptors, carvers or illustrators creating a new work or developing ideas for new work
    • media artists using the space for research/writing/production/creation of a film or media art project
    • musicians writing, composing, arranging and/or recording new music (including improvisational)
    • poetry and prose writers using the house as a place for writing and editing their work
    • multi-disciplinary/multi-media artists.

    Some of the monthly residencies have been pre-allocated to specific disciplines and others are open to all practices.

    Community Engagement Requirement:

    Resident artists are required to host one community engagement activity (e.g. an open studio, workshop, performance, artist talk, screening or other event) that relate to their ongoing work or the work they are producing in the Jenni House.  Please ensure you accommodate COVID-19 guidelines issued by the Yukon’s Chief Medical Officer of Health.     Fees, Financial Assistance & Support:

    Resident artists have 24 hour access to the Jenni House building and receive an honoraria of $1000/month and a $100 material allowance for public engagement (Ie workshop supplies, food for reception). Allowance towards travel, accommodation and subsistence may be offered if applicable.

    Accommodation is not provided as part of the Jenni House Artist Residency, but economical options within walking distance are available.

    ArtsNet and its partners are available to help resident artists make connections with Yukon artists and the public.

    Selection:

    - Selections will be made by ArtsNet and its partners, and/or invited guest jurors including other artists and art professionals.

    - Residency applications will be judged based on the following criteria: creativity, public interaction, overall quality, and demonstration of artistic ability.

    The submission of entries/images does not guarantee you will be selected for participation in the Jenni House Residency.
