Vaccination against COVID-19 is required for all of our volunteers, including booster shot [or to be within 6 months of receiving 2nd dose of Moderna/Pfizer or within 2 months of receiving 1st dose of Johnson & Johnson.]

It may take us a week or two to get back to you with a response. Please consider this information and align your request accordingly. If you haven't attended an orientation in over a year you will be required to attend one if accepted so it's good practice to take that into consideration when submitting your application as orientations are only held the first Sunday of each month. If you are currently out-of-town and requesting organizational housing please fill this application at least one month before your intended date of arrival.

Traveling to Tucson*
- You must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 in order to be a volunteer with Desert Aid.
- Air Travel: Airplane travel is an option for volunteers under the following conditions: 1) Wear a N95 mask that has been properly fitted the entire trip. It would be optimal for volunteers to travel nonstop and fly on an airline that does not fill all the seats (leaves center seats vacant). 2) Diligent hand hygiene and sanitizing practices. 3). Throw away the N95 mask away upon arrival. Wearing goggles or shields during travel is also highly advised.
- Personal Vehicle: Practice diligent hand hygiene and sanitizing practices throughout travel.
Su Viaje a Tucson*
- Debe de haberse vacunado totalmente contra el COVID-19 para
  participar como voluntarix de Auxilio en el Desierto.
- Transporte Aéreo: Viajar por avión puede ser una opción para voluntarixs
  bajo las siguientes condiciones: 1) Use una mascarilla N95 colocada de
  buena medida durante el viaje entero. Sería lo ideal que lxs voluntarixs
  tomen un vuelo sin escalas y que usen una aerolínea que no utiliza todos
  los asientos (o que deje espacios vacíos entre asientos) 2) Sea diligente
  con su higiene de manos y prácticas de sanitización. 3) Descarte la
  mascarilla N95 al llegar. El uso de gafas o protector facial se le
  recomienda encarecidamente.

NMD Resources for Returning Desert Aid Volunteers

Would you like to stay at one of our volunteer housing spaces (more information about our housing options below)?

The Returner Apartment (Available until the end of March 2026) is a spacious two-bedroom home located right in the middle of Tucson. Very nice space and solely used for housing returning volunteers.

The Volunteer House is where month-long volunteers stay through their program and it's also used as storage for the NMD community. Recently, we voted to expand the capacity to 5 people with three spots being for the month-long volunteers and two spots being for returning volunteers.

The Barn is a base in Ajo used by a number of humanitarian aid groups. Housing for this space needs to be approved by DAWG and the Ajo Sams (please select this option if interested. The vol coords can connect you to the Ajo Sams).

The Pink House is a space shared by NMD and PHP in Arivaca. If you plan on staying there for more than two weeks you must submit a request to DAWG and PHP at least two weeks prior to start day. If you're staying for less than two weeks you just need to announce your intentions and coordinate with the people currently staying there.

Staying as a Guest at a Local Volunteer's Home is an option available if there's no other housing option available during your intended volunteer period and you're comfortable with it. Please check this option even if it's not your first choice so the Volunteer Coordinator can plan ahead.

El Apartamento de Voluntarixs Retornantes (Disponible hasta finales de marzo 2026) es una casa amplia de dos recámaras que se encuentra en el mero centro de Tucson. Un lugar muy lindo que se usa solamente
para voluntarixs retornantes.

La Casa de Voluntarixs es donde se alojan a lxs voluntarixs durante su estadía de mez completo, y sirve también para uso de almacenamiento de la comunidad NMM. Recientemente, votamos ampliar la capacidad a 5 personas con tres lugares para voluntarixs de mes, y dos lugares para voluntarixs retornantes.

El Granero es una base en Ajo que usan varios grupos de auxilio humanitario.
Se necesita el apruebo de DAWG y los Sams de Ajo para alojarse. (por favor
elija esta opción si le interesa. Lxs coodinadorxs le podrán conectar con los
Sams de Ajo)

La Casa Rosada es un espacio compartido por NMM y PHP en Arivaca. Si
planea estar ahí por más de dos semanas debe de someter una petición a DAWG y
PHP por lo menos dos semanas antes de su primer día. Si se va quedar por
menos de dos semanas, simplemente tiene que anunciar sus intenciones y
coordinar con las personas alojandose ahí.

Alojarse como Huésped en la Casa de unx Voluntarix Local es una opción disponible si no hay otra opción de alojamiento disponible durante su período de voluntariado deseado y usted se siente cómodx con ella.
