    Excessive Yard Move Use Violation
  • An FMCSA "yard move" is a special ELD status allowing drivers to log low-speed commercial motor vehicle movements in a confined yard as "On-Duty, Not Driving".

This preserves your valuable 11-hour driving clock, though the time still counts against your daily 14-hour and 70-hour limits.

    The Essential Rules:

    • Qualifying Locations: The vehicle must be in a confined, private area with restricted public access (such as a motor carrier's terminal, shipper's lot, or repair facility). Areas like open truck stops, public parking lots, or malls do not qualify.
    • No Public Highways: You cannot use yard move status on publicly accessible roads unless traffic control measures (like gates or flaggers) restrict public access during the move.
    • Status Requirements: Time spent in a yard move is logged as "On-Duty, Not Driving".
    • Break Compliance: Yard move time can officially be used to help fulfill your 30-minute rest break, as it is classified as on-duty time.
  • Did you know that yard move status should only be used in the very specific ways listed above?*

    Excessive Speeding
  • Speeding is one of the fastest ways for you to turn a normal workday into a serious crash, roadside inspection problem, or career-damaging event.

A loaded commercial motor vehicle needs significantly more time and distance to stop than a passenger vehicle, and even a small increase in speed can greatly reduce your ability to react to traffic, curves, construction zones, weather, and sudden hazards.

Speeding also increases the severity of a crash when one occurs, which can place you, the public, the company, and your cargo at unnecessary risk.

As a professional driver, you are expected to control your speed based on the posted speed limit, traffic, road conditions, weather, visibility, and the type of equipment you are operating.

Driving faster than conditions allow is not just a bad habit; it is a safety and compliance issue.

This corrective action training is intended to reinforce that safe speed management is a core part of professional driving. The goal is simple: slow down, stay in control, protect your CDL, and make sure everyone gets home safely.

  • Are you aware that speeding is one of the fastest ways to get pulled over for a roadside inspection?*
