  • Are you aware that each commercial motor vehicle manufactured on or after October 20, 1993, and equipped with a hydraulic brake system, shall meet the automatic brake adjustment system requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 105?*
  • Are you aware that each commercial motor vehicle manufactured on or after October 20, 1994, and equipped with an air brake system must meet the automatic brake adjustment system requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 121? (393.53(b))*

    Brake Hoses/Tubes Violation
  • Did you know that brake tubing and hose must—(1) Be long and flexible enough to accommodate without damage all normal motions of the parts to which it is attached;(2) Be secured against chaffing, kinking, or other mechanical damage; and(3) Be installed in a manner that prevents it from contacting the vehicle's exhaust system or any other source of high temperatures? (393.45 (b) (1-3))*
  • Are you aware that all connections for air, vacuum, or hydraulic braking systems shall be installed so as to ensure an attachment free of leaks, constrictions or other conditions which would adversely affect the performance of the brake system? (393.45 (2)(d))*

    ABS Light Violations Violation
  • Are you aware that each truck tractor manufactured after 3/1/98 shall be equipped with an electrical circuit that is capable of signaling a malfunction that affects the generation or transmission of response or control signals to the vehicle's antilock brake system? (393.55 (2))*
  • Are you aware that each semi-trailer that was manufactured after 3/1/01 shall be equipped with an electrical circuit that is capable of signaling a malfunction in the trailer's antilock brake system, and shall have the means for connection of this ABS malfunction circuit to the towing vehicle? (393.55 (3))*

  • Did you know that all 28 truck tractor lights and all 23 semi-trailer lights noted in Table 1 of 393.11 are required to be operational at all times? 393.11*
  • Are you aware that lamps and reflective devices/material required by 393.9 must not be obscured by the tailboard, or by any part of the load, or its covering by dirt, or other added vehicle or work equipment, or otherwise. 393.9(b)*

    Reflective Tape Violations
  • Did you know that retroreflective sheeting shall be applied to each side of the trailer or semitrailer? Each strip of retroreflective sheeting shall be positioned as horizontally as practicable, beginning and ending as close to the front and rear as practicable. The strip need not be continuous but the sum of the length of all of the segments shall be at least half of the length of the trailer and the spaces between the segments of the strip shall be distributed as evenly as practicable. (393.13(c)*
  • Did you know that retroreflective sheeting shall be applied to each side of the trailer or semitrailer? Each strip of retroreflective sheeting shall be positioned as horizontally as practicable, beginning and ending as close to the front and rear as practicable.   • Did you know that two pairs of white strips of retroreflective sheeting, each pair consisting of strips 300 mm (12 inches) long, must be positioned horizontally and vertically on the right and left upper corners of the rear of the body of each trailer and semitrailer, as close as practicable to the top of the trailer and as far apart as practicable? (393.13(3)*
