• South Florida PGA Foundation Scholarship

  • The South Florida PGA Foundation is a not-for-profit organization founded to support the South Florida community, with a focus on junior golf, education and scholarships, and charitable gifting. The South Florida PGA Foundation falls under the direction of the South Florida PGA, a not-for-profit organization comprised of over 1,850 men and women PGA Professionals serving as the experts in business and the game of golf.

  • About the SFPGA Foundation Scholarship

    Developed in 2018 the South Florida PGA Foundation annually provides one local student with a four year, $20,000 scholarship to assist with their college education. The student selected to receive the $20,000 scholarship will receive it in $5,000 increments annually over the course of four years. In order to receive funding each year, additional paperwork including a copy of the student’s transcript must be submitted to the SFPGA Foundation to ensure the student it performing at an acceptable level. 

  • Scholarship Purpose/ Applicant Eligibility

    The purpose of the SFPGA Scholarship is to encourage and promote the attainment of higher education goals. 

    Eligible applicants must be high school seniors who are currently:

    • Employed in the golf industry,
    • OR whose parents or grandparents are employed in or retired from the golf industry (PGA professionals, LPGA Professionals, superintendents, sales representatives, club employees, or club managers)

    Also included, individuals impacted through the South Florida PGA Foundation outreach programs including:

    • Habitat for Humanity 
    • Smiling Fore Life
    • Current or past SFPGA Junior Tour member
    • PGA HOPE 
    • Other various Foundation Program participants

    Applicants must be permanent residents of south Florida and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 (based on a 4.0 scale).

  • Important Scholarship Information

    YOU MUST BE A HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR, TO BE ELIGIBLE

    Applicants must have completed (or plan to complete) high school prior to August 1st of the current calendar year and have enrolled (or plan to enroll) in an accredited college or university in the fall of the current calendar year. 

    Along with each application (see below), the applicant must submit the following information:

    • A copy of his/her most recent transcript (home schooled students must submit a parent transcript)
    • A copy of his/her ACT/SAT test scores

    •  A personal statement (see below) 

    • 2 letters of recommendation (from a teacher, guidance counselor, employer, coach, PGA Professional, etc.)

  • List the appropriate extracurricular high school activities and community programs below, including all awards and positions of leadership held by you as well as membership in various student organizations. Scholarship applicants already enrolled in college should answer all questions detailing both high school and college activities. 

  • Personal Statement

  • Please type a response to ONE of the following topics. This statement should help us get to know you by going beyond the numbers and facts included in other sections of your application. Present yourself in a carefully written and honest reflection.

    1. Outside of your immediate family, who inspires you the most?

    2. When was the last time you over-delivered on something (project, assignment, etc.)? What was it? Why did you work so hard at it?

    3. Pick an experience from your own life and explain how it has influenced your development.

    We ask that you limit your essay to two pages typed using a font of 10-12.

    Finalists could be subject to take part in a formal interview process with the Scholarship Committee on a specific date in April.

    *Please note as listed above, the individual of receives the scholarship will remain in contact with the selection committee and the SFPGA Foundation staff throughout their college career, providing an annual progress report in order to received ongoing funding. Additional paperwork for the recipient to complete will be provided upon receiving the scholarship.
