OceanEcho 30x30 Event Planning
The future sustainability of life on earth and the health of our planet is inextricably linked to the health of our ocean. However, only approximately 7% of the ocean is protected. Global concern regarding environmental degradation and anthropogenic impacts on marine ecosystems has led to urgent calls to meaningfully protect 30% of the ocean in the next decade to preserve what remains of ocean biodiversity and restore the ocean to abundance. By leading an educational event in your community through the OceanEcho 30x30 campaign, you can help inform your peers about the importance of marine protected areas and inspire action to protect these critical regions of our ocean planet. Use this form to help plan your presentation using the resources provided in the OceanEcho 30x30 event planning toolkit. Once you submit your plan, you will receive a copy of your responses via e-mail. Thank you! Questions? Contact us at oceanecho@earthecho.org.

Determine Your Audience: Identifying the audience for your event is a key early decision that will influence your event plan. Decide if you’d like to reach your peers/classmates at your school, a general community audience, or a group of younger students in your community (or another audience group). Describe your target audience here:
Date/Time/Platform or Location: With your audience identified, pick a target date and location for your event. Keep in mind that weekends may work better for the broader community but if you are hosting the event for school you may be able to coordinate with a teacher on the event details. If you are planning a virtual event, consider the platform! Would you like to host a webinar during a virtual class session or use the Kahoot! quiz included in our OceanEcho 30x30 event planning guide as an activity for your event?
Event Goals: What would you like to accomplish with your event? How will you measure your success? Be Specific!
Who do you need to contact? Who do you need to reach out to in order to schedule/arrange to give a presentation? This may be a teacher/professor, local organization, community group etc... In the OceanEcho 30x30 event planning toolkit you will find a template outreach e-mail you can use to help with this process.
Action Steps/Timeline: List the key action steps you will need to take to plan and implement your event. Examples can include reaching out to your school/potential partners, sending invitations to potential participants, taking practicing the template presentation in the OceanEcho 30x30 toolkit etc… Be sure to include a timeline for carrying out each step.
