  • CASE REVIEW

    A 42 year-old-female presents for an emergent eye examination with chief complaint of foreign body sensation that grows throughout the day. She has, over the past two years, been placed in biweekly contact lenses from monthly lenses and now is wearing daily disposable contact lenses. She uses an artificial tear to help with the symptoms a minimum of four times daily and at a maximum of six times daily. She notes that her co-workers ask her why her eyes become red throughout the day. She is taking an oral anti-depressant and has seasonal allergies which she takes a daily allergy medicine for.

     

    Findings

    Her vision was 20/20 ou with moderate myopic correction at distance and 20/25 at near.  Her OSDI was a 38. She had mild corneal staining that extended into her visual axis and moderate conjunctival staining mostly at 3 and 9 oclock on the bulbar conjuctiva. Her TBUT was 5 seconds. Her Inflammadry readings were strong positive ou with a 320mOsm Osmolarity reading in both eyes.
