Thank you for your interest in the Al Neuharth Free Spirit and Journalism Conference. One student from each state and the District of Columbia will be selected to participate in a virtual conference June 21-24, 2021.
We invite you to complete the following application.
Applicants are strongly advised to print and read the reference guide prior to starting the application process. (The guide is available throughout the application.)
Applicants are able to start the application process and complete it at a later date. To exercise the “save for later” option, students can create a Jotform account or can log back in with either their Google or Facebook account.
Applicants will have the ability to upload the following information – and it is our hope that students will upload as much as possible before submitting their application:
Color headshot photo
Academic transcript (unofficial)
Brief essay on why you are interested in journalism
Brief essay on what characteristics make you a free spirit
Three journalistic work samples
Two letters of recommendation
Any portions of the application that the applicant is unable to upload can be emailed to email@example.com. (Many letters of recommendation are submitted via email.)
