Description
SCAN is looking for experts in subject matters related to the SCAN mission to present at the 2021 virtual SCAN Symposium, March 3-5. SCAN encourages all professionals, researchers, and students to submit an abstract and application to participate in the virtual Poster Presentation Session.
All applicants must complete this application form and submit by 5:00 PM (CST) on, January 15, 2021. Abstract and faculty letter of approval (required for student submissions) must conform to formatting and naming intructions listed below and be included as uploads via this form where indicated, for the submission to be considered complete. Incomplete submissions will not be considered.
Applications will be considered using a peer-reviewed process. The Poster Presentation Session Review Committee will notify applicants via email by February 1st, 2021.
Award and Recognition
- All posters will be evaluated, and a cash prize of $250 will be awarded to the lead author for the most outstanding poster in each of three categories: Professional, Graduate Student, and Undergraduate Student.
- The lead author of any accepted student abstracts will be provided (via reimbursement) with free registration to the 2021 virtual SCAN Symposium.
- Winners will be announced at the 2021 virtual SCAN Symposium.
- The lead author of winning posters will receive reimbursement for thier registration fee to the 2021 SCAN Virtual Symposium.
Stipulations
- Award winners must be SCAN members at the time of Symposium.
- The virtual Poster Presentation Session Category (SCAN Professional, Graduate Student, Undergraduate Student) is determined based on applicant status at time of submission.
- Accepted applicants will be notified via email of the confirmed date and time for the virtual Poster Presentation Question & Answer Forum by February 1st, 2021.
- At least one author for each accepted abstract must register and attend the Virtual Poster Presentation Session Question & Answer Forum. The Virtual Question & Answer Forum will be approximately 60 minutes, date and time to be determined by final program agenda. SCAN Symposium attendees will be encouraged to attend and participate in the virtual Poster Presentation Session Question & Answer Forum. The Poster Presentation judging committee will also attend the virtual Poster Presentation Session Question & Answer Forum. The presenting author(s) should be prepared to summarize their research project in 2-3 minutes.
- Accepted authors are responsible for all expenses related to their participation including poster preparation, Symposium registration fees, and other personal expenses, and are encouraged to register early to take advantage of early bird pricing. The lead author of winning posters will receive reimbursement for thier registration fee to the 2021 SCAN Virtual Symposium.

Abstract Submission Requirements*
Abstracts must conform to one of the following categories:
- Research abstracts contain a brief description of author’s original research, methodology, major findings, and conclusions or implications for practice.
- Project or program report abstracts contain information about the purpose of the project or program; the theory or previous research upon which it is based; the unique characteristics of the project or program; the characteristics of the subjects or target audience involved and the type of evaluation for the project or program.
- Excellence in practice tools and strategies abstracts contain a description of the author’s innovative practice tools or strategies, methodology, targeted audience, an explanation of application in practice, and evaluation outcomes, if available.
*Student submissions must include a letter from the faculty advisor approving the abstract for consideration, and containing the advisor’s email address.
