Call for Artists: Spring Hill Avenue - Oak Trees
As you may have seen, the City of Mobile recently removed a small number of oak trees from the canopy over Spring Hill Avenue in Midtown. Unfortunately, due to damage sustained over several years, these trees were deemed a public safety hazard and had to be removed. Urban Foresters were able to preserve a section of one of the trees—a 10-foot piece of a trunk approximately 24 inches in diameter—and wanted to make it available to local artists who might be interested in using it in their work. At the city’s request, we wanted to see if any of the artists who’ve worked with Mobile Arts Council in the past were interested in obtaining some of the recently salvaged wood. Unlike the trees that fell in Bienville Square, this wood has not been dried or aged, so you would need somewhere to store it until it is in a workable condition. It is available on a first-come, first-served basis. If you’re interested, please fill out this form.
