Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, founded on October 3, 1887, as the State Normal College for Colored Students, began classes with fifteen students and two instructors. Its destiny was to become an institution of higher learning, striving toward even greater heights of academic excellence.
Today, Florida A&M University(FAMU) is one of twelve institutions in Florida's State University System and "excellence with caring" remains its goal. For more than 126 years, Florida A&M University has served the citizens of the State of Florida and the nation through its provision of preeminent educational programs that were the building blocks of a legacy of academic excellence with caring. Now facing the 21st century and beyond, FAMU, "Florida's Opportunity University," is committed to meeting the challenges and needs of future generations.
Since its inception in 1993,the Charlotte-Metropolitan Chapter of the Florida A&M University Alumni Association has assisted Charlotte area students, financially and otherwise, who have an interest in attending or are currently enrolled at FAMU. More than 300 Florida A&M University Alumni are located in the area and our goal is to help the young people of ourcommunity while raising the level of awareness of the need for highereducation.
SCHOLARSHIP ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Currently accepting for Fall enrollment as a freshman student at FAMU. Completed application consists of:
1. Completed responses of required application questions
2. Official transcript
3. Proof of Acceptance Into Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University
4. Clear Photo (Headshot) of Applicant
Please note: If your parent attended Florida A&M University, they must be a financially contributing dues paying member of the Florida A&M National Alumni Association.
