Please consider reporting this incident to the Environment Agency (EA) on their 24 hour Hotline on 0800 807060, please ask for a reference number so the incident can be followed up. You can also report a pollution incident on a canal to the Canal and River Trust (CRT) on their 24 hour Hotline on 0800 47 999 47 please ask for a reference number so the incident can be followed up. Reports regarding United Utilities infrastructure should be made directly to UU on 0345 6723723. If you are a member of angling club then you should also make your club aware of the incident. Closed Season / Out of Season Fishing
An annual close season for coarse fishing on rivers and streams in England is in place from the 15th March and runs right through until 15 June inclusive. (this doesn't apply to most canals). The annual close season for salmon is 1 November to 31 January, The annual close season for migratory trout is 1 October to 31 March, The annual close season for non-migratory trout (not rainbow trout) in all waters (except fully enclosed still waters) is 1 October to 14 March, there are some variations depending on where in the country you are so please double check you area. If you suspect out of season fishing then you should call the Environment Agency on their 24 hour Hotline 0800 807060 - please ask for a reference number so the incident can be followed up. If you a member of an angling club then you should also make your club aware of the incident. Please make sure you keep yourself safe and always ask for a reference number.
