    for Sydney Mardi Gras Parade 2021

  • The much-loved Chinese LGBTQ+ Community Float will make its appearance at the Sydney Mardi Gras Parade for a 6th consectuvie year. As always, we will wow the audience with oriental-inspired asesthetics, stunning costumes, and dynamic dance moves. In doing so, we hope to increase the visibility and presence of the Chinese LGBTQ+ Community, advocate love, freedom and equality for the wider LGBTQ+ world and spread messages of hope, courage and strength. We are now inviting you to join us in this fabulous experience.

    To apply for a spot on the float, please carefully read the information below and fill in the form.

    Please note that participants are approved on a 'first come, first serve' basis and as the maximum number of participants is 40, only the first 40 applicants who have completed and signed the form and made the payment will be guaranteed a spot on the float. Those who complete the payment but do not make into the first 40 will be refunded, which is the only scenario a refund will be approved.

  • General Information about the Parade

    Theme: RISE

    Time and Date: 6-10 pm, Saturday, 6 March 2021 (However, float participants will assemble at 12pm at a designated location on the parade day for a series of pre-parade activities, including doing the makeup, a photoshoot of each participant, receiving gifts from the sponsor, taking a group photo with the sponsor, etc.)

    Venue: Sydney Cricket Ground

    COVID-19 Safety Measures:

    • Symptom screening and temperature checks
    • Contact details registered for all individual participants
    • ID checks on entry
    • Mandatory face masks for all participants while in the Marshalling Area
    • Physical distancing at all times
    • Controlled access sections within the marshalling area will be in place to allow physical distancing and avoid contact with large numbers of people

    Creative concept: Phoenix Reborn

    Size: 40 (including 4 supporting personnel)

    Costumes: Bold, vibrant and colorful designs inspired by the image of the Chinese phoenix.

    Choreographed routine: a 45-second dance routine to be performed at the Performance Zone

    Marching distance: approximately 555 metres along the Parade Route, which will take approximately 25 minutes to traverse through

    Rehearsals: Rehearsals will be held on 30 Jan, 6, 13, 20, 27 Feb and 5, 6 Mar at around 7pm for about 1-1.5 hour. The venue will be advised later. Participants are encouraged to participate in at least two rehearsals and MUST attend the one before the Parade Day. Participants not showing up at the rehearsal on 5 Mar will be deemed to have withdrawn from the parade and may be refused entry into the marshalling area on the Parade Day. During the rehearsals, physcial distancing must be maintained and face masks must be worn at all times.

    We are always looking for warmhearted and talented people to join our team as volunteers. If you have expertise, experience or interest in one or more the areas below and are willing to dedicate some of your time to our cause, we'd love to have you on our team.

  • Joining the float entails a registration fee of $20 and another $80 for costumes. The $100 should be deposited into the following bank account:

    Once the payment is made, please send an email titled 'Bank Receipt - Your Full Name' with your bank receipt attached to chinesepridefloat@gmail.com .

    Please note that except for the scenario specified in Paragraph 3, payments are NOT refundable under any other circumstances. Reasons such as "I changed my mind", "I just realised I have other engagements on the Parade Day", "I don't like the costume/music" or "I don't get along with another float member" won't be accepted as valid grounds for a refund.

  • RELEASE / DISCLAIMER

    I acknowledge that there may be risks involved in the event (Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade) and associated rehearsals. I fully realise the potential dangers of participating in the Event and rehearsals and fully assume the risks associated with my participation and my wellbeing and safety during and after the Event. I understand and acknowledge that the Event organisers (including all the volunteers and organisers of the Chinese LGBTQ+ Community Float) provide no warranties, regarding my wellbeing and safety.

    I understand and agree that situations may arise during the Event, which may be beyond the immediate control of the Event organisers (including all the volunteers and organisers of the Chinese LGBTQ+ Community Float).

    I will participate in the Event, in a manner that does not endanger either me or others.

    I agree that the Event organisers (including all the volunteers and organisers of the Chinese LGBTQ+ Community Float), have no liability to me whatsoever for any direct or indirect loss, including but not limited to injury or death, sustained by me during or in any way related to my participation in the Event.

    I acknowledge that the registration fee is not refundable if a participant withdraws their registration, or changes their mind about attending the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade.

    I authorise the use of my pictures and videos taken by myself, other participants and our designated photo and videographers to use on the Chinese LGBTQ+ Community Float's website, social media platforms such as Facebook page, Instagram, WeChat and TikTok and publications or other media material produced, used or contracted by the Chinese LGBTQ+ Community Float including but not limited to: brochures, invitations, newspapers, magazines, television, websites, etc.

    I agree to follow all reasonable safety instructions provided to me by the Event organisers (including all the volunteers and organisers of the Chinese LGBTQ+ Community Float), before, during and after the Event.
