    Dissertation Nomination Form
  • Thank you for your interest in the PSA Academic Prizes.

For over 30 years, the PSA has been celebrating the very best of our profession through our Academic Prizes. Our award categories recognise outstanding dissertations, scholars, teaching and groups across the discipline.

Winners will be unveiled at the PSA’s Annual Conference on 30 March 2021 and also announced over social media and our website.

You can use this form to submit your nomination for any of the prizes in the DISSERTATION category.

For other categories, follow the links to nomination forms for Career Prizes, Group Prizes, or Teaching Prizes.

    PhD Dissertation Prizes:

    • Nominees must be members of the PSA
    • The doctoral dissertation must have been examined and passed in the 2020 calendar year
    • Nominations must  include an expanded abstract of no more than 10 pages

Please ensure you have read the Prize Guidelines carefully before submitting a nomination and that you meet all eligibility requirements and submit all the required supporting documents (where applicable).

Please email prizes@psa.ac.uk with any queries.

The deadline for all nominations is 5pm GMT on Wednesday 27 January 2021.

  • Prize Category

  • Please select the category which most closely aligns to the subfield of the dissertation.

A dissertation may NOT be entered into multiple categories - for dissertations which span more than one category, the nominator should select the subfield they feel is most appropriate.

  • Nominee's details

  • Use this section to fill in the details of the dissertation's author.

  • Please note all nominees MUST be PSA members at the time of the submission deadline. Non-members can join the PSA here.

  • Dissertation information

  • For your nomination to be considered, you must complete the following information and upload the required documentation.

The expanded abstract should be no more than 10 pages and must outline the main arguments and findings of the author's work. Judges will be provided with both the extended abstract and full manuscript. You may also choose to upload the external examiner's report (optional).

As part of the PSA's commitment to ensuring fairness and addressing implicit bias, the dissertation prizes are judged under blinded review. All documentation therefore MUST BE ANONYMISED - this includes any reference to the author's name, institutional affiliation, or gender (e.g. use of pronouns in the examiner's report).

Please ensure you have removed any information in the manuscript (including acknowledgements) and supporting documents that could identify the dissertation author before submission.
