Kin Canada recognizes that many members receive education and training as part of their academic and professional experiences. In some cases, Kin Canada’s training opportunities may have overlap with a member’s previous learning experiences. In those cases, a member can request credit for a Kin Canada course based on prior training completed through work, school, or other means. Members will be required to complete a Kin Canada overview as well to make sure they understand how this learning will be adapted in the organization.
What is the process?
Members review course outlines/syllabus and learning outcomes of Kin Canada courses to determine if there is a close match between their previous course completion and what is to be covered by Kin. If they believe they have achieved the course learning outcomes, they may apply for Kin credit by completing the information below. They must also provide the course syllabus, learning objectives, and key content/topics that are covered in their prior learning to Kin Canada’s National Education and Training Coordinator. Upon review of required documentation by the National Education and Training Committee, applicants will be notified via email if they have met course equivalency requirements or not. Please allow 2 weeks for processing of your request. If you are approved, you'll be invited to complete a short quiz on Kin U to demonstrate your understanding of how the material relates to Kin Canada.
Requirements:
In order to evaluate prior learning experience, members must adequately demonstrate that they have acquired the knowledge, skills and attitudes to meet the learning outcomes through prior work and/or life experience. Therefore, this completed application must also include the following information of the course previously completed through a workplace or alternative volunteer experience.
- a course syllabus/ course description
- learning objectives and
- key content/ topics
If any of the above is not submitted, an application will not meet requirements to assess prior learning and course equivalency. Additional documentation or permission to contact former employers to confirm completion may be requested by Kin Canada. Following approval of your course equivalency, a completed quiz on Kin U will be required to demonstrate your understanding of Chapter 11.
