NC100BW - SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
APPLICATIONS DUE BY: APRIL 5, 2024
GOAL:
The goal of the scholarship program is to provide educational funding to support African American girls, which will assist applicants in achieving lifelong educational goals.
SCHOLARSHIP AWARD:
The scholarship is awarded each year based on availability of funds. The awards are presented based on academic excellence, community involvement, character, and demonstrated leadership qualities and responsibilities. The scholarship is awarded after a competitive screening process. This scholarship will only be distributed to the selected students upon proof of enrollment at an accredited college, trade or technical school.
REQUIREMENTS:
1. Applicants must be an African American female in her senior year of high school.
2. Applicants must provide proof of enrollment or acceptance in an accredited post-secondary college/university or other professional training institution.
3. Applicants must be a resident of Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco, and Sarasota County in the state of Florida and permanent citizen of the United States.
4. Applicants must have a 2.5 minimum grade point average (GPA) at time of application and must be verified by an official transcript or certifying letter from the appropriate school official.
5. Applicants must submit a minimum 800 word essay on the following prompt: What leadership skills do you possess and how would your field of study enable you to empower African American women? ALL ESSAYS SHOULD BE TYPED, DOUBLED SPACED, and USE A 12 POINT ARIAL OR NEW TIMES ROMAN FONT.
6. Applicants must submit two non-relative references. References should be on official organization, church, business or school letterhead. Examples of possible references include: School teachers, church leaders, community leaders, employers, supervisors, etc.
7. Please list your outside activities which show your involvement in civic and community activities over the past two-three years, as well as the number of documented community service hours (A minimum of 150 hours is required at the time of the application and must be documented on your transcripts).
8. The top ten applicants will be invited to an interview with the scholarship committee.
9. Please upload a digital photo (graduation photo or other appropriate picture) for use in our publication of this program. Photos will not be returned.
10. Application must be postmarked by April 5, 2024 to be considered.
The Scholarship Committee will review all applications and notify applicants of their status. All winners will be notified via email no later than June 30, 2024.
