Development Analytics sees its commitments to corporate social responsibility as key to providing the best services to its clients, ensuring the wellbeing of its team, and leaving a legacy of positive impact and change in all spheres of operation. To this end, Development Analytics upholds a code of ethics that is supported by its commitment to social responsibility and accountability for its actions. Development Analytics is committed to conducting business and in a responsible and ethical manner, protecting the environment wherein it operates and the local communities and individuals with which it engages, while defending human rights and justice at all times. The following policies perform the basis of Development Analytics’ corporate commitments.
Code of Ethics
Development Analytics team members and contractors are expected to act at all times according to the highest ethical standards and abide by a guiding code of ethics in all professional and even personal engagements. Development Analytics expects all staff and contractors to apply the following principles in their daily professional activities
- Honesty – Perform all duties honestly and truthfully, without omissions, while prioritizing personal safety and security for themselves and those around them. All Development Analytics staff should have the fortitude to admit errors when committed and trust that they will be addressed and rectified in a fair and correct manner.
- Transparency – All motivations, objectives, goals, and activities should be undertaken in a transparent manner and spirit when dealing with clients, their beneficiaries, and when dealing with other Development Analytics team members.
- Fairness – Development Analytics staff and contractors are to deal with clients, their beneficiaries, and each other in a fair and just manner that takes into consideration personal limitations and extenuating circumstances.
- Respect – Every individual with whom Development Analytics team members interact is to be treated with respect and integrity at all times.
- Cultural sensitivity – Development Analytics team members and contractors are expected to remain aware of the cultural sensitivities in the diverse areas in which they operate, and at all times to remain respectful of cultural, religious, ethnic and linguistic traditions and particularities.
- Gender sensitivity – Development Analytics team members and contractors are expected to remain aware of gender sensitivities that may arise in the diverse areas and contexts in which they work, and to make adjustments as needed. No form of gender-based discrimination in the workplace will be tolerated.
- Neutrality – Development Analytics team members and contractors are expected to remain neutral in instances of dispute that may arise while performing any service, and will never seek to sway in any biased manner clients or their beneficiaries.
1. Safety and Security policy
Safety and security are Development Analytics’ top priorities. As such, the company maintains a strict security policy that applies to every activity undertaken by Development Analytics staff and consultants while operating and engaging with clients and third parties. Development Analytics sees safety and security as a twofold requirement: guaranteeing the physical security and safety of all individuals operating or in contact with Development Analytics; as well as ensuring the continued security of all data collected and stored physically or digitally. To this end, Development Analytics ensures that safety and security considerations and protocol are integrated into every part of the decision-making process. Development Analytics strives to maintain up-to-date information and awareness of the physical security of the spaces in which it operates, and is ready to readjust activities as needed.
All Development Analytics staff should read and understand the Security Protocol & Standard Operating Procedures document. Any questions or concerns should be directed to the Head Security officer or other member of Development Analytics’ senior leadership team.
2. Confidentiality
Development Analytics, its staff and consultants have an obligation to respect the privacy of clients and their beneficiaries, employees, members, and contractors, and to protect and maintain the confidentiality of all information learned about those individuals and agencies in the course of providing services to them.
3. Conflict of Interest
Development Analytics seeks to avoid any conditions of conflict of interest to the greatest extent possible, and routinely verifies that all team members and staff are operating in the best interest of overall company goals and in the best interest of its clients. In all dealings and at every point along its operational structure, Development Analytics works to exclude any conditions that compromise its ability to treat and meet the needs of its clients in an open and fair manner due to personal or business conflicts of interest.
Development Analytics staff and consultants must declare any potential conflicts of interest (either actual or perceived) to Development Analytics management to determine necessary action. Conflicts of interest may include (but are not limited to):
- All outside interests including business and non-business interests that may interfere with Development Analytics’ work or reputation
- Bribery
- Gifts and Benefits from clients or suppliers
- Relationships at work (domestic, spouse/civil partner, relative, client, supplier, etc). The existence or appearance of potential nepotism and/or conflict of interest in relation to recruitment or treatment of staff, and any such relations with partners or clients must be declared to Development Analytics management.
4. Anti-Terrorism
As part of Development Analytics’ commitment to ensure its staff and consultants are in no way associated with supporting or funding terrorist activity, or taking part in any way with terrorist activities, Development Analytics takes the following steps to ensure funds transferred are issued only to authorized parties.
- Per Executive Order 13224, Development Analytics checks all employees, associates, service providers under contract and/or purchase order with Development Analytics against the OFAC Sanctions list and Specially Designated Nationals List (SDN) located here: http://www.treasury.gov/resource-center/sanctions/SDN-List/Pages/default.aspx
- Results of above searches are filed in Development Analytics’ vendor files.
- All staff, consultants and subcontractors certify in their contracts that they are in no way associated with financing of terrorist activity and must sign an Executive Order On Terrorism Financing certification.
- Where possible, and in markets that offer this service reliably, employees and associates should pass a police/background check prior to entering into a contractual relationship with Development Analytics. In the absence of this service in certain conflict-affected markets, Development Analytics should seek assistance from prime-contractors and/or donors to assist in the vetting process.
Staff and consultants should report any suspicious activity to the Security Director or member of Development Analytics’ Senior Leadership team.
5. Anti-Corruption
Development Analytics does not, and will not, engage in corrupt policies in the course of doing business and fulfilling any and all of its contractual obligations. Development Analytics remains aware of the risks involved in operating through a diverse and expansive network, and includes measures and strict policies in place to prevent and address any instances of corruption or undue advantages that may arise with the company or its staff and field consultants. Development Analytics prohibits the practice by its staff or contractors of any form of bribery, kickbacks, extortion or solicitation, trading in influence, laundering or the covering up of any form of corrupt actions, and will immediately act upon and where possible ameliorate any damages or negative consequences incurred.
Development Analytics staff and consultants shall not make or promise to make either directly or indirectly any gift or payment of money or anything of value to any government official, political party or official thereof or candidate for political office for the purpose of influencing any act or decision of the official's government, department, agency or instrumentality thereof in order to obtain or to retain business for his or herself.
6. Other Corporate Policies
6.1 Gender
Development Analytics remains aware and sensitive to issues that may arise due to gender considerations in all areas of operation, from internal staffing and human resources management, to third-party engagements and operations in the field. Development Analytics does its best to apprehend such conditions before they arise, and takes appropriate steps to avoid any gender-based discrimination or insensitivity. In the event that such cases do arise, Development Analytics will take corrective action when and where appropriate.
6.2 Environment, Energy, and Climate Change
Development Analytics places an emphasis on protecting the environment at all times and in all locations where it operates, taking all appropriate or necessary measures to protect and defend environmental surroundings. Where possible, Development Analytics opts for environmentally friendly equipment and services, and maintains an organizational preference for electronic over paper-based information sharing and filing systems.
Development Analytics is committed to continuously improving its energy efficiency and reducing energy costs and negative impact on the environment. Development Analytics strives to work towards better energy management in all areas of operation and believes that attaining more energy efficiency is in the best interest of all parties involved and positively contributes to the health and longevity of all individuals and generations to come. Development Analytics looks to ensure that energy efficiency considerations are included in all phases of operational planning, procuring, and promotion to the greatest extent possible.
Development Analytics recognizes the growing consequences that climate change has on populations throughout the world, with disproportionate greater negative consequences on otherwise vulnerable populations. In its work, Development Analytics attune to the ways in which is operations may contribute to the acceleration of climate change consequences and works to reduce such impacts wherever and whenever possible. Furthermore, Development Analytics supports the global movement and organizations working to raise awareness and reduce the negative consequences of climate change throughout the planet.
6.3 Health and Wellbeing
In addition to the safety and security of all staff, contractors, and third-party individuals operating or in contact with Development Analytics’ operations, Development Analytics promotes the health and wellbeing of all staff and contractors as they perform their work-related duties as well as in their personal lives. Separate from country-specific requirements to meet legal health care obligations, Development Analytics works to provide its staff and contractors with a physically and mentally sound and healthy working atmosphere and environment, and respects the personal physical and mental limitations of all actors in its network. Development Analytics considers a healthy work environment as critical to the performance and success of its staff and contractors, as well as the success and progress of the organization as a whole.
6.4 Substance Abuse
Substance abuse refers to the use of a potentially impairing substance that adversely affects an individual’s safety, health or of others, either directly through intoxication or indirectly through social or health problems. The range of substances is wide including, but not limited to, alcohol, illicit drugs, solvents, prescription drugs, and over-the-counter medication.
The sale, distribution, possession, or use or incitement to use illegal drugs or other abuse of substances is not tolerated in Development Analytics workplaces or when performing work-related activities. Violation of this policy may result in serious disciplinary action including dismissal. Acting inappropriately under the influence of alcohol may be subject to similar disciplinary treatment.
It is important that Development Analytics staff or consultants who may have long-term alcohol or substance abuse problems seek appropriate treatment. Development Analytics is committed to support productive efforts to address such problems.
6.5 Harassment
Development Analytics operates a culture of mutual respect and dignity where harassment, bullying, or discrimination of any kind is prohibited. All staff, partners, and clients must be treated with dignity and respect to engender a productive and safe working environment. Breach of this policy and all instances of such behavior, or alleged behavior, will be taken seriously, fully investigated, and may be subject to disciplinary action.
6.6 Social Media
Development Analytics recognizes that its staff and consultants may choose to participate in online/social media communications. Social media offers the chance to create, share, and consume content, and in doing so can enhance the work of Development Analytics. However, the internet is not an anonymous tool, and there is a need to use good judgement about the material posted online, especially in relation to the Development Analytics projects and operations. Ultimately, social media participation and content of Development Analytics staff and consultants is a personal affair.
