Permanent Establishment in the Era of Digitalization and Remote Work
Increasing digitalization of work has enabled employees to work remotely from anywhere. The Covid-19 pandemic has reinforced this trend by disrupting business operations and restricting international travel.
This development has also had several implications from a tax perspective.
In this session, we will discuss how cross-border remote working exposes business and tax authorities to new challenges regarding:
- the requirements for permanent establishment (PE),
- the notion of effective place of management;
- and how they determine the country of residence of a company for tax purposes.
