At the 2021 Congress, APPROACH: Create a Bright Future Through Paper, we are asked to explore the essence of paper, of washi, and of paper art. It is only by APPROACHing paper and paper art, that we as artists can engage in deep conversation with paper as an artistic medium. As we listen more closely to paper and to paper pulp, we understand what we can ask paper to do, how paper is willing to transform, and how the paper is willing to accept the artist’s mark. An APPROACH can be artistic, experimental, or based in research and long study. The last year has asked us to think more about the future than ever before and to reflect on our past. What has changed or developed in your APPROACH to paper?
