Raising Hands Tutoring is an educational non profit organization that supports low income and at risk struggling readers at the elementary level. We are on a mission to decrease the achievement gap that exists for our underserved children by providing high quality reading instruction in the classroom and free tutoring outside of the classroom to our neediest students. We achieve this by offering local teachers access to a costly training and certification program with a nationally recognized, evidence-based reading approach. Once trained, teachers are equipped to apply the program in their classes and provide free individualized after school tutoring to at-risk, struggling readers who require a more intensive intervention experience. Our provision of free tutoring is unique to our program and a critical aspect of our mission.
If you are interested in becoming trained and certified as an Orton Gillingham practitioner through Raising Hands Tutoring, you must meet the following:

- complete one 5 day, 30 hour Orton Gillingham course and one 12.5 hour asynchronous Phonemic Awareness course (in July or August)
- able to commit to the IMSE 50 hour OG Practicum:
- After an initial application process, the teacher must submit weekly lesson plans, videos, papers and sit for the final CERI exam.
- able to commit to tutoring a qualifying student for free, twice weekly after school.
