  • Hospitality Association and Job Training Grant Application

    Timothy S.Y. Lam Foundation endeavors to support hospitality associations or other organizations providing training opportunities through a variety of programs, including educational, professional certification assistance and hands on vocational learning. Grants are awarded in the first quarter of each year with a due date of November 15th of the proceeding year unless otherwise approved by the board of directors or foundation staff.

  • Program Selection

    Choose one or more of the following programs: Educational Program or Professional Certification Program.
  • Program 1: Educational Programming

    Awarded grants must be used to fund educational speaker fees and approved related expenses, study guides, classes, learning/support materials, or related expenses for hosting educational programs in a hospitality field of study/certification.
  • Program 2: Certification Assistance

    Awarded grants must be used to fund professional hospitality certification courses, study guides, instructor fees, exam fees, workshops, materials or related expenses for hosting professional certification programs in the hospitality field.
  •  Terms and Conditions:

    • Awarded organizations will be required to sign a grant agreement that may be specific to the organization's needs or programs.
    • Applications must be solely for courses, seminars, certifications, or programs related to the education/training and advancement of the hospitality industry and the community it serves. (Unrelated associations or programs are ineligible).
    • The awarded funds are paid directly to the institution listed on your application and not to an individual representative. (Please ensure the information is accurate).
    •  During the post-award phase of your grant term, the Timothy S.Y. Lam Foundation monitors the progress of your project(s) through a combination of financial and programmatic requirements.

    • TSYLF associates will work collaboratively with your association to monitor the progress of your educational or certification programming and will identify potential areas where assistance/guidance might be necessary. 

    •  If your grant is on a reimbursement basis the foundation associate will track the balance of your available grant funding and mail a check to your association representative or headquarters for approved programs. 

    • The Foundation Associate may contact you to ask questions about the programs & how funding was utilized.

    • Funding not used in the calendar year will be forfeited and not roll over to the following year. 

    • Failure to comply with these reporting requirements or any mismanagement of funds may result in the denial of future funding or the remaining balance of your grant. 

    • Incomplete applications will not be considered.
  • Important Updates:

    Please review the recent updates and acknowledge that you understand the new parameters for this TSYLF grant.

    • TSYLF will no longer cover membership dues for an association's members or its board of directors.
    • TSYLF will no longer cover Travel Grants for associations or individuals.
    • The deadline for 2025 grant applications is November 15, 2024.
    • Invoices/receipts and a few event photos must be submitted within 30 days of the completion of the event, conference, workshop, or certification, etc., or no later than December 15th of the funded year & can be submitted via email to info@timothysylam.org.
    • All first-time association or special program applicants are now required to include a letter of recommendation with their application. (See details below)
  • Media Press Release:

    I grant the Timothy S.Y. Lam Foundation permission to our organization's name, logo, professional information, photographs, video, and the use of quotes for publicity or educational and marketing purposes. I also grant the Timothy S.Y. Lam Foundation the right to edit, use, and reuse said products and information for nonprofit purposes including use in print, on the internet, and all other forms of media. I understand that all materials will remain the property of the Timothy S. Y. Lam Foundation, and I am not entitled to any compensation or payment for their use. I also hereby release the Timothy S.Y. Lam Foundation and its agents and employees from all claims, demands, and liabilities whatsoever in connection with the above.

  •  Letter of Recommendation/Support:

    First-time applicants must submit a letter of recommendation or support about how your organization has already contributed to your community and how these proposed programs would benefit the cordiality, growth, and development of hospitality service, education, and job development. 

    The letter must be on official letterhead, include the complete contact information of the referrer, and be submitted separately by the referrer through this link:
