Welcome!
The American Swedish Institute offers scholarships for two purposes:
- To welcome students from underrepresented groups and cultural communities to our adult handcraft, food and language classes.
- To reduce financial barriers to all our progams, for anyone who needs it. Please apply for that scholarship here.
How it Works
The American Swedish Institute warmly welcomes students from historically under-represented groups and cultural communities (including students of any background who identify as Black, Brown, Indigenous, a Person of Color, or Multi-racial) into any of our handcraft, food or language classes at a reduced cost. We understand that cost is not always the primary or only barrier to our programs. Rather, these scholarships are offered in the spirit of opening our doors widely in our pursuit of being a welcoming place for people of all backgrounds, which is core to ASI's mission.
If you are looking for financial assistance for any of our programs but are not a member of a historically under-represented group or cultural community, we ask you use this form instead. Please note that select ASI programs have limited seats available for free admission via the MELSA smARTpass program and discounted seats for youth in select adult programs (see individaul program descriptions and pricing at checkout).
How it works
Our scholarships are available for ASI's virtual and in person programs. We do not require any justification or proof of income. Limited spaces in each class are available on a first come, first serve basis (if a class is sold out, we'll gladly add you to the waitlist and/or work with you to find a suitable alternative). Students are invited to request a scholarship twice per class cycle via this form; new classes go on sale in March, July, September, and November annually.
Please note, we keep our classes small and some programs run over multiple dates, so make sure you will be able to attend the full program before applying for financial assistance. Please notify ASI or your instructor if you won't be able to attend a program for any reason.
Please fill out the form below and we'll respond as soon as possible with a check out code for your class registration at whatever cost you choose.
If you have any questions, please reach out to program coordinator Erin Swenson-Klatt at erinsk@asimn.org or 612-870-3352.
