Munich Jewellery Week 2021 at your door ✨🗞✨
As we face the uncertainties of the current situation on one hand, and try to counterbalance the overflow of digital content on the other, Current Obsession invites our global jewellery community to contribute to a beautiful, printed publication in place of our usual in-person programming. The Paper will be designed and published by Current Obsession and delivered to the doorsteps of the hundreds (or thousands) of visitors who aren’t able to travel to Munich this year.
Artists and independent curators are invited to build exhibitions on the pages of the Current Obsession Paper, just as they would in a space in Munich.
If you would like to participate as a gallery or a brand, please, email us at info@munichjewelleryweek.com for more information. We have special offers we would like to discuss with you!
We encourage you to submit beautiful images, staged exhibition environments, rendered digital jewels, fictional stories and more!
CO will make sure the Paper looks fabulous, but is also affordable to buy and to send around the world.
We will support physical events in Munich through our www.munichjewelleryweek.com website, CO Paper and social media, but we have decided to forgo the organisation of a physical MJW. This means we will not print a map nor make street signs for this upcoming edition.
Let’s work together to create a brand-new, spectacular edition of MJW! 💛✨
Deadline for submissions is 1 February 2021.
Please fill in and submit this form to take part. You will hear from the MJW Team if we have any questions or need more information. In case you have any questions for us, do not hesitate to get in touch via: info@munichjewelleryweek.com
BASIC CAMPAIGN: ‘EDITORIAL’ – Individual artists are invited to submit one image of a piece of jewellery (photographed according to our guidelines)* to be featured in a visual editorial by CO. This option ensures that your piece will be featured in the Current Obsession Paper and on the MJW website. The editorial will include artist's name, contact information and a short bio (based on the information you submit in the form below). Each editorial will be designed in collaboration with visual artists and illustrators, who will create stunning experimental environments for the jewellery to inhabit.
Total cost of administration and production of the Basic Campaign is €50 excl. VAT**
ADVANCED CAMPAIGN: ‘CURATED EXHIBITION’ – Artists and independent curators are invited to build exhibitions within the pages of the Paper, just as they would in a physical space in Munich. This option ensures substantial space in the printed Paper (min. 1 full page and up to 4 pages***) and on the MJW website.
Submitted concepts must feature one or several artist(s) united by a theme, to form a coherent jewellery presentation. We encourage you to consider submitting beautiful photography, staged exhibition environments, rendered digital jewels, transdisciplinary collaborations, fictional stories, etc.
Total cost of administration and production of Advanced Campaign is €250 excl. VAT
By taking part in one of our campaigns, you are supporting the hard work of our team and a number of freelance writers, photogrpahers, illustrators and editors that put in countless hours into creating beautiful content, communicating and facilitating Munich Jewellery Week. Thank you!
We are currently planning several layers of content within the CO Paper:
1. 'Crucible' — A curated series on intersectionality and diversity. This portion of the Paper will include in-depth research articles and a visual journey developed by Roxanne Simone, Finchittida Finch and Kalkidan Hoex.
2. Overview of events in Munich — We will work with a team of writers and photographers to provide a behind-the-scenes look at events such as Schmuck and Talente, the exhibition at the Pinakothek der Moderne, the presentation by the Munich Art Academy’s jewellery department and more!
3. Curated exhibitions — Curators, artists, brands and galleries are invited to create exhibition environments through texts and imagery.
4. Editorials — Artists are invited to submit individual pieces of jewellery to inhabit stunning environments, featured in the Paper as tear-out posters (technical limitations permitting).
5. Ads and advertorials.
Current Obsession’s 2021 Munich Jewellery Week Paper will be offered for sale online as well as at a number of key locations in the following cities: Munich, Amsterdam, London, Berlin, New York and more. We will release the complete list of retailers as soon as possible.
*For the Basic Campaign you can submit images of ONE piece of jewellery. Images need to be shot in high resolution, on white or light background. The piece will most likely be cut out and placed in an environment, therefore the exact dimensions of the image itself are up to you, as long as the piece looks sharp, well-lit, and shot from a direct angle, preferably front view (you could also include variations, side view, top view or a low-angle view).
**If you have a European VAT number, please get in touch with us via info@munichjewelleryweek.com to claim your VAT.
**Current Obsession and artists we invite to create editorials reserve the right to creatively interpret the submitted piece of jewellery: we may change the scale, alter the colour or multiply the piece or its parts in accordance with the chosen concept.
***Current Obsession reserves the right to make final decisions regarding: final amount of pages, length and editing of texts, selection of images, layout and other graphic design elements to maintain the overall house identity and tone of voice.
