• Intern Standards of Conduct

  • In order to remain in good standing and continue your internship through completion, you must agree to the following rules and guidelines:

    ATTENDANCE

    
You must notify your supervisor in advance in case of absence or tardiness. Three times of not doing so will result in termination of the internship.

    PUNCTUALITY

    
Arriving on time for work, taking and returning from breaks on time, and calling supervisor prior to being late are essential work skills. Repeated tardiness will result in termination of the internship.

    WORKPLACE APPEARANCE


    Dressing appropriately and practicing personal hygiene appropriate for the position is good practice. Please be mindful of how you present yourself when you are here.

    TAKING INITIATIVE

    
Initiating interaction with your supervisor for next tasks upon completion of previous ones is a good sign that you are an engaged learner. Don’t wait for someone to tell you what to do next.

    QUALITY OF WORK


    Giving one’s best effort, evaluating your own work, and utilizing feedback to improve work performance are also high quality attributes. Always try to do your best.

    COMMUNICATION SKILLS

    
Speaking clearly and communicating effectively – verbally and non-verbally- are important to collaborative work. Listen attentively. Use language appropriate for the work environment. Repeated violations of this will result in termination of the internship.

    RESPONSE TO SUPERVISION

    
Accepting direction, feedback, and constructive criticism with a positive attitude and using information to improve work performance are good habits to acquire.

    TEAMWORK

    
Make an effort to relate positively with co-workers, work productively with individuals and teams. Respect diversity in race, gender, and culture.

    PROBLEM-SOLVING/CRITICAL-THINKING


    Exercise sound reasoning and analytical thinking. Use knowledge and information from your own knowledge and experience and from the internship to solve workplace problems.

    WORKPLACE CULTURE POLICY AND SAFETY

    
Demonstrate an understanding of workplace culture and policy. Also, it is essential to comply with all health and safety rules as directed by your supervisor. Repeated violations will result in termination of the internship.

     

    During and after your internship, you will be evaluated on all of the above-mentioned characteristics, as a way for you to grow and improve as an employee and co-worker. Please be mindful of these guidelines and ask for clarification when needed. Also, please notice that violation of these guidelines may be terms for termination, as indicated above.
