  • Loomis Sayles & Co — Undergraduate Summer 2021 Internship

    Credit Research Intern

    Summary:

    Loomis, Sayles & Company has an opening for an undergraduate research intern to work with a senior analyst in the Credit Research Department.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Assist in fundamental industry and company credit analysis with direct supervision from senior analyst  
    • Build and maintain financial models 
    • Compile and update bond indenture covenant information for company tear sheets 
    • Prepare company valuation analyses   
    • Contribute to presentation materials for company reviews and other research memos  
    • Complete credit research related projects that senior analyst requests 

    Skills/Qualifications:

    • Working toward Bachelor’s degree with concentration or minor in finance, business, accounting, economics or mathematics 
    • Understanding of financial statements with completed coursework in accounting, financial statement analysis or corporate finance
    • Model building and graphing in Excel 
    • Strong interest in financial analysis and ability to source new information  
    • Quick learner and attention to detail 
    • Solid written and verbal communication skills

    Growth Equity Strategies Intern

    Summary:

    Loomis, Sayles & Company has an opening for an undergraduate intern to work with the Growth Equity Strategies team. The successful summer internship participant will work with all members of the Loomis Sayles Growth Equity Strategies (GES) team, located in Boston, MA performing in depth structural fundamental company and industry research from a long-term bottom-up perspective by analyzing: 

    • Business drivers and models,
    • Competitive and industry analysis
    • Financial model and management
    • Growth drivers for the business and industry
    • Underlying intrinsic value of the business

  • Massachusetts Pension Reserves Investment Management Board (MA PRIM) Internship

    Investment Intern ‐ Real Estate and Timberland
    Responsibilities and Duties

    • Conduct research and assist in the management of PRIM’s commercial real estate and timberland portfolios
    • Perform due diligence and performance analysis on existing and potential new investments
    • Attend manager meetings as needed, taking notes and observing key takeaways
    • Attend property tours and attend industry events, when appropriate, in the local Boston market
    • Prepare weekly economic update of current market events to present to the investment team

    Interests, Experience or Qualifications

    • Interest in researching asset allocation strategies, global economics and real estate and timberland markets
    • Proficiency with Excel preferred; experience with Argus is a plus but not required   
    • Academic experience and/or interest in fundamental and statistical research
    • Interest in gaining industry experience and exposure to top real estate and timberland investment managers
    • Ability to prepare and present research findings to colleagues at PRIM

    Investment Intern – Private Equity
    Responsibilities and Duties

    • Support the Private Equity team in managing a broadly diversified portfolio of private equity, venture capital and private debt funds
    • Conduct investment research on portfolio strategy and private markets using both quantitative tools and qualitative analysis
    • Assist in portfolio monitoring, manager reviews and performance analysis
    • Attend industry events, when appropriate, in the local Boston area
    • Prepare weekly economic update of current market events to present to the investment team

     Interests, Experience or Qualifications

    • Interest in gaining industry exposure to investors making significant contributions across a wide range of private investment types
    • Ability to prepare and present investment analysis and research to colleagues and other stakeholders
    • Experience with MS Office suite; proficiency in Excel
    • Academic experience and/or interest in fundamental and statistical research

    Investment Intern – Public Markets
    Responsibilities and Duties

    • Assist with monitoring the investment performance of a portfolio of publicly traded domestic equity, international equity, emerging markets equity, fixed income, and high yield bond investment managers
    • Review monthly and quarterly manager performance reports and understand the reasons for good or poor performance
    • Provide analytical and research functions as instructed by senior staff
    • Prepare daily market snapshot with the help of FactSet database to be distributed to the investment team
    • Attend industry events, when appropriate, in the local Boston area
    • Prepare weekly economic update of current market events to present to the investment team

     Interests, Experience or Qualifications

    • Knowledge of Bloomberg a plus, or interest in learning Bloomberg software
    • Interest in gaining industry experience and exposure to top investment managers in the industry
    • Curiosity of market events and the impact of each on a publicly traded portfolio

    Investment Intern – Portfolio Completion Strategies
    Responsibilities and Duties

    • Support the PCS team in utilizing systematic tools to monitor and analyze portfolio risk and performance
    • Assist in evaluating fund manager skill using both a quantitative framework and qualitative analysis
    • Support research initiatives as needed, including providing thorough analysis, clear presentation and necessary documentation of relevant information
    • Stay abreast of both commercial and academic research in a broad field of investment topics
    • Prepare weekly economic update of current market events to present to the investment team

     Interests, Experience or Qualifications

    • Interest in multi-asset classes and modern portfolio theories
    • Self-starter with curiosity about investment management
    • Academic comprehension of complex financial concepts and solutions
    • Interest in econometric and quantitative finance techniques
