  • Retouching

  • A note about retouching.  Retouching is an art and it seems everybody has their own personal opinions about it.  I do my best to maintain the integrity of a person's character while minimizing anything that will detract from an individual's general appearance.  This typically involves the removal of blemishes and minor imperfections.  Freckles and age spots will not be fully removed.  However, they may be reduced in number or intensity to enhance the general appearance.  Beauty marks, birth marks, scars and the like will typically not be removed.  The skin texture will be softened slightly but not removed.  The eyes will be enhanced to maintain an alert and compelling appearance but with a natural quality.

  • Clothing

  • Clothing can make or break a headshot.  Following are some general guidelines.  Wear a top with long sleeves and darker color.  Avoid loud prints or busy patterns.  Solid colors are best.  Red should not be a major color.  Purple may not reproduce perfectly but can be ok.  Sport coat and tie may or may not be appropriate for your business.  In Texas, dress casual seems to be generally acceptable.  Necklines are important.  Collar-less and v-neck are usually not the best choice.  Select a shirt with a neckline that compliments your face shape.  Look in the mirror.  You know what looks good.  An old shirt gets tired.  If that's your best look, starch may help.  A like new look is best. A turtleneck does not usually work well.  Bring several looks if you are unsure!

  • Makeup and Hair

  • I do not provide makeup and hair services.  So please arrive at the studio ready to shoot except for final touchup.  Bring makeup, brush or comb as necessary.  Lip balm to moisten lips is fine.  Clean and natural is the goal.  Avoid overy styled hair and glossy products.  I can add a bit of shine where appropriate in post production and it is much easier to work with matte products.  If you need to get a haircut, please do so at least 10 days in advance of the shoot.  If you have additional questions, please feel free to contact me.  There are many online sources of information as well.
