Guidelines for Muslim Funerals:
Whilst we appreciate families play a big part in Muslim Funerals, there are a few guidelines that I must introduce for safety.
When family are carrying the coffin to the grave can I please ask that as the bearers are carrying the coffin to the grave that the rest of the mourners follow behind and do not crowd around the coffin until it is in place?
Only funeral directors staff members can climb into a grave to place the body, or to level the bottom of the grave the ladder MUST be left in place at all times. This is for safety and if it is not followed, we will have no choice but to stop families getting near the grave.
Only funeral directors staff members are to be involved in placing the lids on the concrete/wooden chambers, SAFETY BOOTS MUST BE WORN. We have had members of the public wearing sandals. This is unacceptable and again for safety reasons we insist on safety footwear.
Backfilling graves:
We ask for members of the public to move to a safe distance whilst the vehicles are bringing the soil to a grave and reversing away. Once the vehicles have moved away, the family may backfill the grave. When the next load is brought onto site, again we ask that the public move away at safe distance. This is for the benefit and safety of both, our staff and the public.
These are the guidelines as above from the Vale Cemetery and Crematorium and I the undersigned declare that I have understood and will adhere to these guidelines.
Thank you.

Bereavement Services Manager, The vale Cemetery & Crematorium
