    A PROGRAM TO RECOGNIZE EXCELLENCE IN SCHOOL AND EARLY CHILDHOOD LEADERSHIP SPONSORED BY THE EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN EDUCATION ASSOCIATION 

     


    Award Criteria 

    The nominee:

    • serves in a position of leadership at a school or center that is a dues-paying member of ELEA at the time of the award;
    • is an active leader of a school or center, where a commitment to excellence is clearly evident;
    • will remain in active service in a position of school leadership during the school year following this award;
    • shows a strong commitment to leadership through active membership in professional associations;
    • is respected by children, colleagues, parents, and the community at large;
    • assumes an active role in his/her community, distinguishing himself/herself as a leader in civic, religious, or humanitarian activities;
    • shows strong educational leadership by setting high expectations for staff and students; and
    • maintains a creative, purposeful learning environment.

    All winners will be notified and acknowledged at the ELEA National Conference.

    Distinguished Educational Leader of the Year Award:
    This is an annual award given for outstanding service or leadership of an ELCA school or early learning program. Candidates may be nominated by another party, or you may complete the application and supply the accompanying materials - it is nice to be nominated by a colleague! Nominated candidates will be contacted by the ELEA National Office.

    Each nomination must include acknowledgment and support from the Leader's employer of the following obligations and responsibilities inherent in acceptance of this award.

    • The Distinguished Leader will be expected to attend the ELEA National Conference the following year.  ELEA will provide conference registration. 
    • The Distinguished Leader will have a short article published about their award in several publications.
    • This award might also generate interest in visiting your ECE Center by other ECE administrators or by congregations interested in beginning their own ministry.

  • LETTERS OF REFERENCE


    Each nomination must include at least three letters of reference, one from each of the following persons: pastor of the congregation, staff person currently employed by ECE or school, and/or parent/civic/community leader. Each letter should identify the author and provide insight into the candidate's skills and knowledge in school leadership. Comments should be based on professional performance.
