    What is FGDM?

The Family Group Decision Making (FGDM) is a platform for family members to come together to work on an issue affecting each other in a collaborative manner. The FGDM provides an opportunity for family members or those who are considered family members to share their concerns and opinions about the issue in a respectful and safe environment. FGDM centres on Family Leadership. This means that the family is the one who formulates the solutions for the identified issue. The family members would also contribute to the implementation of the suggested solutions. Such promotes accountability and responsibility amongst the family members, as well as mutual accountability between the families and other stakeholders.

FGDM can be used in institutions, residential and community context. FGDM has been found to be helpful in creating plausible safety plans for at-risk children, re-integrating persons from institutions to community, building solutions for family-related issues, with the longer-term goal of enhancing family capacity and functioning.
