    • III. Internship/Research Information

    • Read the Location Review below. International travel location approval has deadlines which precede this scholarship/award application deadline.

The College highly recommends you use the GPS/GoGlobal website and the CDC website to learn about the medical risks (COVID-19) related to your destination.

      Location Review

Due to the on-going global pandemic, the College requires initial review of any international placement location. Additional review by the International Risk Assessment and Management Committee (IRAMC) may be required. See the GPS website for full details.

All students who would like to receive academic credit or funding (grants/scholarships/financial aid) from Wheaton College for a summer 2022 international internship, practicum, or fieldwork must complete this online form to receive feedback on whether their anticipated placement location requires and/or is eligible for review. Only international placements longer than three weeks will be considered for review.

Placement considerations are due (the deadlines for consideration have passed):

      • Friday, February 11, 2022 for internships, practicums, or fieldwork beginning prior to June 1, 2022
      • Friday, March 4, 2022 for internships, practicums, or fieldwork beginning on or after June 1, 2022

Deadlines are final; placements will NOT be considered for academic credit or funding after the published deadline. Students planning, but not yet accepted to an internship, should complete the form in anticipation of their placement. Placements not approved for consideration or not approved for travel are not eligible for College funding.

Note: Wheaton College requires that all students participating in college-sponsored international programming be up-to-date with their COVID-19 vaccination(s). To be up-to-date, a person must receive a booster shot when and if eligible prior to departure and/or if required by the host country.

    • Use the U.S. Department of State website to learn about your international destination (enter the country name in "Learn about your destination") and find out the current Travel Advisory Level.

    • Select the ISOS medical risk rating for your location. To access this information, go to International SOS and login with Wheaton College's member number 11BSGC000040. Once logged in, select "Know My Risks" at the top, and then your location from the Location List on the left under "Learn About my Risks". The risk ratings will appear on the top of the Overview page for the country (The Medical tab will provide information on current health threats, including COVID-19, and standard of care for your international destination).

    • IF TRAVELING INTERNATIONALLY: All travel to a location with a U.S. Department of State Level 3 or Level 4 (if only due to COVID-19) requires review and approval by the International Risk Assessment and Management Committee (IRAMC). Student travel to any international location with a pre-pandemic high or extreme medical/security risk will not be endorsed.

Please complete the on-line form for international placement consideration (location review). If your internship location requires IRAMC approval, you will be asked to provide additional information and may be asked to meet with the committee. Requested materials must be submitted to GPS in advance of the monthly IRAMC meeting for consideration. No non-refundable financial commitments should be made before approval from the committee.
