Marietta City Schools (MCS) believes that technology is a critical component in todays learning environment and that all students should have adequate access to a computing device. To help facilitate this, MCS will be implementing an optional student-Chromebook check out program.
The computer that your child is being issued is an educational tool and should be used in that capacity. Failure to comply with MCS’s Internet Acceptable Use policies and the terms below will result in loss of take-home privileges.
Before a student is granted permission to take their assigned technology device home, both the student and their parent/guardian must agree to the terms below.
Terms and Conditions:
Student will be issued a Chromebook, battery and power cord/charger.
Student will comply with the MCS’s Internet Acceptable Use Policy IFBG and MCS Computer and Network Resources-Student Acceptable Use Guidelines Policy IFBG-E1.
Legal title to the equipment belongs to the district and shall at all times remain with the district. Your right to possess and use the equipment is limited to and conditioned upon your full compliance with this Agreement.
Student’s possession of the equipment terminates on the collection date set by the school unless terminated earlier by the district or upon withdrawal from the district.
Parent/Guardian/Student must report any lost, stolen, or damaged equipment to the school immediately. For stolen equipment, a police report must be filed.
If the equipment is lost or damaged, either intentionally or due to negligence, the student may be subject to discipline action and the parent/guardian will be responsible for the cost of repair or replacement in accordance with the following pricing structure:
Cracked/damaged screen: $80
Broken/damaged keyboard: $40
Lost power supply: $30
Lost/damaged beyond repair: $250
Lost/damaged case (if provided): $15
Accidental insurance is available to Parents/Guadians for purchase for $23.95/device/year. For more information on this, please visit our website at https://www.marietta-city.org/Page/3667.
The student’s web activity will be filtered 24 hours a day using the software application GoGuardian.
The student’s search activity will be monitored for inappropriate or harmful material during the hours of 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. using the software application GoGuardian. Searches that will be flagged include, but not limited to:
Searches pertaining to sexual situations
Searches on harming oneself
Searches on harming others
The student’s school administration will be alerted to any inappropriate searches conducted. If necessary, disciplinary action may be taken. Parents/Guardians are encouraged to also monitor the student’s use when away from school.
Any activity that violates MCS’s Internet Acceptable Use Policy IFBG or MCS Computer and Network Resources-Student Acceptable Use Guidelines Policy IFBG-E1 should be reported to a school administrator. Disciplinary action, if any, for the students and other users shall be consistent with the district’s standard policies and procedures. Violations of the policy can constitute cause for revocation of access privileges, suspension of access to MCS District electronic resources, other school disciplinary action, and/or other appropriate legal or criminal action including restitution, if appropriate.
