WELCOME TO THE INDEPENDENCE CHARTER MIDDLE SCHOOL ("ICMS") APPLICATION & LOTTERY PROCESS!
We thank you for considering ICMS for your child's/children's future education. We'd like to take a moment to explain the process and lottery to you.
ICMS is a charter school. We are required by Oklahoma Statute Title 70 $3-140(A) to run a lottery for student admission every year due to the large number of applicants who wish to attend ICMS. ICMS is subject to the requirements of charter school law; therefore, applicants will receive priority in the following order:
1. Applicants who have siblings who either currently attend or graduated from ICMS/HARDING CHARTER PREP and are or were in good standing with parent hours.
2. Applicants within OKCPS boundaries.
3. Applicants outside of the OKCPS boundaries.
It is important to note if the applicant lives outside the boundaries of the Oklahoma City Public School District, an application for transfer from OKCPS must be completed online upon acceptance to Independence Charter Middle School.
Attached you will find a copy of the application packet. Please read each page carefully, fill it out completely (either type or print legibly in ink) and return to the school office at ICMS no later than 4:00 P.M. on April 5th, 2021. We will accept either delivery by submission of this form, U.S. Mail, email to agresham@icmsokc.com or you can hand deliver to the school office. Faxes of Applications will NOT be accepted. Any applications received after 4:00 P.M. on April 5th will be considered on the "waiting list" and not a part of the actual lottery process. Please be sure to give at least two contact phone numbers on the application. The lottery process is as follows:
1. Applications for the 2021-2022 school year are available beginning November 16, 2020.
2.Applications are due by 4:00 PM on April 5th, 2021.
3. On April 12, 2021 (Lottery Day), the computer will randomly generate a list of students from the applications received.
4.The admissions committee will call the names on the list to tell them they made the lottery and ask if their desire is to attend ICMS.
5. Letters of Intent (LOI) are mailed asking the parent/guardian to please sign and return stating the child's desire to attend. If LOI is not returned by due date, the child's spot will be forfeited.
6. Once the LOI is signed and returned, that child's name is officially included in enrollment the following fall.
7. After all spots are filled, we start a "waiting list". As positions come open due to attrition, moving, etc., we will call applicants on the waiting list to determine if they are interested in attending ICMS.
Please note even if you have a child that has attended or attends ICMS/HCP, you still must fill out an application for each student.
