MEDITATING THE WORD OF GOD11. Meditation in the Bible sense means to “mutter to oneself”. Practically speaking, this means to “rehearse” The Word of God over and over again to oneself. In Joshua 1:8 (GNT), God tells Joshua how to meditate in His Word. “Be sure that the book of the Law is * in your * worship. * it * and * , and make sure that you * everything * in it. Then you will be * and * .”
12. Psalm 1:1-3 gives instructions for being a “blessed man”. In Psalm 1:1 (GNT), the writer tells us the need to “separate” after we are born again, “Happy are those who * the * of evil people, who do not follow the example of sinners or join those who have * no .” Psalm 1:2 (GNT), “Instead, they find * in obeying the Law of the Lord, and they study it day and night.” Psalm 1:3 (GNT), “They are like trees that grow beside a * , that bear fruit at the right time, and whose leaves do not . They succeed in everything they do.”
15. As we meditate and keep God’s Word daily, we are “washed clean” and our“ways” begin to line up with His ways. “My * ”, says the Lord, “are not like yours, and my * are different from yours.” Isaiah 55:8 (GNT).
16. Psalm 119:9 tells us how a person “purifies” their way. “How can young people keep their lives * ? By * your commands.”
17. In John 15:3 (GNT), Jesus said, “You have been * already by the teaching I have given you.”
18. According to Ephesians 5:26 (GNT), how does Jesus “sanctify” (set apart) and cleanse His Church? *
THE INTEGRITY OF GOD'S WORD19. Because we live and deal with fallen man, who is void of godly character, we may subconsciously attribute to God some of fallen man’s traits, such as lack of integrity or failure to keep His Word. In Numbers 23:19 (GNT) Moses said, “God is not like * , who * ; He is not a human who * . Whatever He promises, * ; He speaks, and it is * .”
20. In Jeremiah 1:12 (GNT), God told the prophet, “You are * ,” the Lord said, “and I am watching to see that my words come * .”
21. God has promised that once He speaks, His Word will not go unfulfilled. Isaiah 55:11 (GNT), “So also will be the word that I speak – It will not * to do what I plan for it; it will * I send it to do.”
22. The “integrity” of God simply means that “God and His Word are one”, just like you and your word are one, if you have integrity. Without integrity, we say one thing and do another. God ALWAYS does what He says. “There are three witnesses: the * , the * , and the * ; and all three give the same testimony.” (I John 5:7-8 GNT)
THE POWER OF THE WORD23. God’s Word is creative in its working. “It is by faith that we understand that the universe was * by God's word, so that what can be seen was made out of what cannot be seen.” (Hebrews 11:3 GNT) God created everything by speaking words from His lips. Nine times in the Biblical account of creation, (Genesis 1), scripture records “and God said”.
24. The writer to the Hebrews declared that God’s Word was “ * and * , sharper than any double-edged sword.” (Hebrews 4:12 GNT)
25. Jesus Christ, God’s Son, healed the sick and raised the dead by speaking to them. Matthew 8:16 says, “When evening came, people brought to Jesus many who had demons in them. Jesus drove out the evil spirits with a and healed all who were sick.” Jesus raised the widow's son by speaking to him. “Then he walked over and touched the coffin, and the men carrying it stopped. Jesus said, “Young man! Get up, !” God's Word has the same power today as it did then. Luke 7:14 (GNT)
26. God’s Word raises us up who were “dead in trespasses and sins”. “By his own will he brought us into * through the * , so that we should have first place among all his creatures.” James 1:18 (GNT)
LOGOS AND RHEMA27. There are two Greek words that are translated “word” in our English Bibles: One is LOGOS and the other is RHEMA. These words have different meanings that are very important to the believer. Logos simply means “the whole Word of God”, “the total concept”. The written Word of God, the Bible is “logos”. Jesus came as the “Logos” to reveal to us everything that the invisible God is. “In the beginning the Word (Logos) already existed; the Word was with God and the Word * God.” John 1:1 (GNT)
28. We read in Hebrews 1:3 (GNT) regarding Jesus Christ, “He reflects the brightness of God's glory and is the exact * of God's own * sustaining the universe with his powerful word. After achieving forgiveness for the sins of all human beings, he sat down in heaven at the right side of God, the Supreme Power.” During His earthly life, Jesus was the exact representation of God’s likeness, showing us the Father’s character and nature.
29. Whereas the logos is the written word, “rhema” is the “spoken word”. “But Jesus answered, “The scriptures says, 'Human beings cannot live on bread alone, but need every * (Rhema) that God speaks.'” Matthew 4:4 (GNT).
30. When God takes the written word from the pages of scripture, either in our own study time or as the word is preached, and speaks to us personally, it becomes a “rhema” to us. “The word of God is alive and active, sharper than any double-edged sword. It cuts all the way through, to where soul and spirit meet, to where joints and marrow come together. It judges the desires and thoughts of the heart.” In our lives. (Hebrews 4:12 GNT). That word produces faith in you to live victoriously every day. “What it says is this: “God's message is near you, on your * and in your * – that is, the * of faith that we preach.” Romans 10:8 (GNT)
31. The “rhema” (spoken word) brings faith alive in our hearts. “So then, faith comes from * the message, and the message comes through * Christ.” Romans 10:17 (GNT)
32. It is the “rhema” or the “spoken word” that brings creative power into our lives. Then as we declare those things which God has spoken to our hearts, He brings that word to pass in His time and way. “You will * in all you * , and light will shine on your path.” Job 22:28 (GNT)
33. Scripture teaches us that we are in a spiritual conflict with satanic powers. Our battle weapons are described in Ephesians 6:10-18 (GNT). Ephesians 6:17 (GNT) tells us to “And accept salvation as a helmet, and the * of God as the sword which the Spirit gives you.” When we are speaking and acting on what God has both written and spoken to our hearts, making it personally alive to us, we will overcome all of our enemies.
