  • Introduction

  • Welcome to YMCA Youth Fitness Fundamentals, our well-being program for kids and teens focused on teaching good nutrition habits, msucle groups, safe equipment use and more.

    This is Step 1 of the program, the online training. You will need to complete this training to move on to Step 2. This online training consists of a combination of slides and videos, and you may be asked to pass a short quiz after some sections of the training to move on.

    So let's get started with 6 slides to introduce you to the Y and to the program!

  • Basics of Health and Wellness

  • Now let's learn about the basics of health and wellness. There are 3 slides followed by a video.

  • Now it's time for some warm-up exercises! Push your chair in and join the instructor in the video below.

    • Always do a warm-up before exercise
    • Full range of motion
      • Walk or light jog before a run
    • Never stretch a cold muscle (stiff and tight)
  • Aerobic Exercise: Key to a Healthy Heart

  • Next we'll learn about aerobic exercises. There are 12 slides, followed by a video, and a short 3 question quiz to review what you've learned in this section.

  • Push in your chair and join the instructor below in some cardio exercises. Pay attention to how your body feels before and after the exercise.

    After you've reviewed the slides and watched the video, correctly answer the quiz questions below to move on to the next section of the online training.

  • Strength and Endurance Training

  • Next we'll learn about strength and endurance training. There are 7 slides, followed by a video, and a short 3 question quiz to review what you've learned in this section.

  • Below is a video that is example of a strength where the instructor uses resistance bands

    Please use resistance bands if you have them. If not, you can do another strength exercise such as pushups or just use this as an example of an exercise you can do in the future.

  • Flexibility and Cool Down

  • Next we'll learn about flexibility and cool down. There are 5 slides, followed by 2 videos, and a short quiz to review what you've learned in this section.

  • There is a stretching and cool down video below. Feel free to follow along.

    Remember, please don't stretch a cold muscle (stiff or tight).

  • We wrap things up with a short section about goal setting. There are 4 slides, followed by a short quiz to review what you've learned in this section.
