  • The George Floyd Memorial Foundation is pleased to announce we are now accepting applications for our annual Law School Scholarship. Newly admitted and current law school students who come from financially disadvantaged families are encouraged to apply. The recipients of this year’s scholarship will receive $1,000.00. The deadline for applying is July 1, 2022.

    Looking for Students Who Are Passionate About Law

    The George Floyd Memorial Foundation is committed to helping students in need by financially supporting them in their fight for justice. These high-achieving students will become attorneys, activists, and scholars who will work to ensure people are treated fairly around the world.

    Eligibility Rules

    The George Floyd Memorial Foundation hopes to receive applications from a diverse range of applicants. To be eligible for the scholarship, candidates must meet the following rules of eligibility:

    • GPA of 3.0 or higher
    • A demonstrated financial need
    • Admission to or enrollment in an accredited law school
    • One letter of recommendation from a professor or community leader (letters from family members or friends are unacceptable). 
    • Submission of an essay on the scholarship topic.

    The Topic of Your Essay

    This scholarship requires that all applicants complete a personal essay responding to one of the following two prompts:

    1. Law school is an intense environment—one in which maintaining a close connection with mentors is vital. Tell us the story of a key mentor in your life, including how they helped you get where you are today, OR;
    2. Please write a policy memo describing one specific reform of the criminal justice system that you support.

    Please limit your essay to 500 words. Save it as a PDF and submit it with your completed application form.

    Letter of Recommendation Guidance:

    1. An online letter of recommendation must be submitted from a professor or community leader (letters from family members or friends will not be accepted).
    2. Recommendations must be on letter head and signed in wet ink by the recommender

    Incomplete applications will not be considered. Applicants who have submitted complete applications will be notified of scholarship decision within 6 weeks after the application due date.
