Non-Traditional Scholarship Application Criteria
A scholarship of $2,500.00 will be awarded to two non-traditional students. The recipients must meet the following criteria:
- Must be a female, 25 years of age or older
- Must have delayed or suspended matriculation at a post-secondary institution
The applicant also must meet at least one of the following financial requirements:
- Must be deemed financially independent for the purpose of determining federal aid eligibility (cannot be a dependent of a parent), or
- Has a dependent other than a spouse (ex. child, sibling, relative, foster child, etc.),
The applicant must be a full-time or part-time student pursuing an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree. The student must be enrolled at a post-secondary institution (e.g., a two-year community college, or a four-year college/university) accredited by an accrediting agency that is recognized by the US Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.
The applicant must live in Davidson or surrounding counties.
In addition to a complete application, the applicant must submit:
- A 300-word essay answering the question: “Why should people exercise their right to vote?”
- Proof of enrollment in college/university (unofficial transcript uploaded to the application)
Note: Applicant must be a student in good standing, with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
- Two letters of recommendation: one from a faculty or staff member at the applicant’s college/university on official letterhead; and another from someone personally acquainted with the applicant (church, employer, or community service agency)
