Inclusion in Archaeology & History College Grant

The Utah Division of State History is a state agency that seeks to preserve and share Utah’s past for present and future generations. This grant supports the inclusion of historically underrepresented groups including but not limited to Asian, Black, Hispanic and Latinx, Pacific Islander, Indigenous, Middle Eastern, and LGBTQIA+ communities, in the pursuit of history and archaeology careers. The award is for current undergraduate and graduate students who identify as members of historically underrepresented communities. It will help develop these students into well-rounded professionals in history and/or archaeology. This grant is available to students in recognition of academic and vocational achievement, and demonstrated leadership in school, community or other service activities. Applicants must also demonstrate financial need. This grant reimburses qualified students for semesters already completed in pursuit of a qualifying degree.

The Utah Division of State History has five (5) awards of up to $2000 to distribute for the 2020 2021 academic year. Awardees will receive:
- Grant funding to reimburse the student for eligible semesters. A total award amount of $2000 per recipient is possible.
- One-semester paid internship at the Utah Division of State History after successful completion of one year of academic study in upper division courses in history and/or archaeology.
  - State History has many opportunities for students to assist in fun, challenging, and skill-building projects.
  - As a successful winner of the grant, you are guaranteed a paid ($500 for a semester) internship working on a relevant project for your career track (10 hours a week for 15 weeks)
- One-year subscription to the Utah Historical Quarterly for the student and family.
  - Published since 1928, the Utah Historical Quarterly is the state’s premier historical publication that reaches nearly 2000 readers each quarter.
  - For the current issue please visit our website.
- Honored attendance at the Utah State History Conference.
  - Entering its 69th year, the Utah State History Conference is a free event celebrating Utah’s historical and archaeological heritage through workshops, tours, and a full day of scholarly presentations. The conference is held annually in September in Salt Lake City.
- Ongoing support and mentorship from the Utah Division of State History.
Do I Qualify for the Diversity and Inclusion in Archaeology and History Grant?

I am an undergraduate or graduate student.I am a Utah resident.I identify as a member of a historically underrepresented community, including but not limited to Black, Indigenous, and persons of color.I attend a public college or university within the State of Utah.I have a declared major in the field of anthropology (archaeology), history, public history, or a related field (which I have justified in my short essays).I was enrolled at my university for at least one semester between Summer 2020 and Spring 2021.
