Part III: Alternatives
On January 25th the Graduate Student Union Executive presented the GSA Plan for Mike’s Place’s Transformation to the GSA council. There was both vocal support and vocal opposition to the plan. The GSA Executive has agreed to include the following questions in the survey to poll the student body on their general feelings towards the alternatives presented by the council. Please note that none of the survey results from these questions are binding, rather they are to assess general student attitudes. Any increase to student fees would need to be passed by referendum at a later date.

The current GSA Executive, as well as the most recent GSA financial audit has indicated that Mike’s Place has become a financial liability. In the event that the GSA executive does not move forward with the plan to transform Mike’s Place into a Community Hub, the executive may choose to dissolve the business and return the space we are leasing back to the University. (If you would like to read more about the financial trade offs of owning Mike’s Place while it remains closed or actions that past committees and execs have taken please visit gsacarleton.ca/mikes-place). Would you prefer:
Dissolve Mike’s Place and forfeit the GSA lease
Transform the space into a community Hub
Do you have any other proposed alternatives for the space and/or changes to Mike’s Place that could sustain it?
