    Principles of Orientation:

    1. Officially welcome all new students to the University of St. Michael's College (USMC) and provide opportunities for them to meet their peers in a safe, supportive and friendly environment.

    2. Orient new students to the many resources, support services and opportunities that are available to them at both St. Mike's and at the University of Toronto.

    3. Introduce students to the unique history, mission and values of the St. Michael's.

    4. Prepare students for both academic and co-curricular success and a well-rounded educational experience.

    St. Mike’s Orientation will help students to:

    • Actively engage in the St. Mike’s Community
    • Confidently integrate Campus Resources and tools for success into their University experience
    • Identify personal goals, values and potential
  • Role of the Leaders:

    Note: Leaders are the staff in dark blue shirts

    Serving as role models and ambassadors of the University of St. Michael's College, leaders will work under the guidance of the Orientation Coordinators and Marshals to enforce the Principles of Orientation Week. They will contribute extensively to the welcoming and introduction of first-year students to St. Mike's during Orientation Week 2021.

    Leaders will be assigned to teams of two to support a group of Orientees. From June-August, Leaders, who are comfortable, will moderate a Whatsapp group chat with their Orientees. Note: OC will provide the contact information for Leader to create group chats and will provide template messages throughout the summer to Leaders in maintaining their chats.

    Leaders will encourage their Orientees to attend events during the summer and O-Week. Leader groups will also be paired with a Marshal and will work as a team to create content for our social media such as welcome videos.

    Leaders will be expected to attend several socials (1.5-2 hr) during the months of June-August and attend all of O-Week.

    All Leaders are required to become SafeTalk or LivingWorks START trained.

    Successful candidates must be highly motivated, responsible and dependable and demonstrate strong organizational and leadership skills. They must be willing to work closely with USMC staff and stakeholders to create an enjoyable Orientation experience for the incoming class that upholds the mission and values of USMC. 

     

    Expectations of Leaders:

    • Attend meetings during the summer

    • Engage all students throughout "Orientation Week"

    • Participate in all activities!!!

    • Provide a fun, inclusive and welcoming environment for all first year students

    • Facilitate the movement of students between locations

    • Follow instructions to ensure safety

    • Respect and uphold the mission and goals of the College

    • Friendly and outgoing

  • APPLICATION PROCESS & ELIGIBILITY

    All applicants must be registered students at the University of Toronto for the Fall 2021 session.

    Hours

     

    Staff training sessions (~4 hr/month) and planning meetings (~2 hr/month) will occur during the months of May to August both synchronously and asynchronously. 

    Workshops and events will take place throughout the months of July, August, and the first week of September. Time commitments will be variable throughout this period, and more specific time commitements will be communicated at your interview.
