  • The McNeal Wildcat Scholarship was established to provide educational opportunities to Council Grove High School senior(s) that are pursuing a college degree at Kansas State University.  This scholarship is in memory of Don and Lucile McNeal, their family was devoted to the Council Grove area for many years. Don became co-owner of the Council Grove Republican in 1947 where he later became co-owners with his son, Craig McNeal in 1975. The family-owned and operated the Republican for over 80 years. His college sweetheart and wife of 71 years, Lucile was a beloved substitute teacher, swim coach, and aerobics instructor. It was said that she taught over 2,000 children to swim in her lifetime. The couple was avid Kansas State football and basketball fans, they attended all home and many away games for 65 years, possibly longer than any other K-State Couple.  

    Qualified applicant(s) will be awarded a scholarship for financial assistance for the upcoming fall semester. 

    Qualifications: Interested candidates must meet the following criteria to qualify for this award:

    - A graduating high school senior at Council Grove High School. 

    - Applicant must be enrolled as full-time student at Kansas State University no less than 12 credit hours. 

    *Application must be submitted by April 15th at 11:59 pm CST.
