  • Federal law does not prohibit employers from asking about your criminal history. But, federal EEO laws do prohibit employers from discriminating when they use criminal history information. MHSC does not discriminate against an applicants criminal history.

    However, a new arrest or a pending charge(s) does directly affect an applicants professional licenses with the state. Typically, when an applicant is arrested, within 2 weeks the Department of State sends licensed security guards (and their employers) a letter notifying them that they received the arrest notification. The state will either suspend your license, or request more information to determine if they will suspend your license.

    MHSC will conduct a background check and submit an inquiry to the Department of State to determine the hiring eligibility of all new applicants.

    We will also conduct:

    • Federal, state, county, and local criminal and civil inquiries.
    • We will run you through the NYS DMV for driving positions.
    • Pistol permit validation / verification with the county or department who issued you a pistol permit.
    • Drug screening (we do not test for marijuana due to new laws. However, if hired, you can not be smoking marijuana or impaired while on our time.)
    • Sexual predator watchdog.
    • Missing persons (Are you missing?)
    • We do not run credit reports UNLESS you applied for a position that involves working directly with money or marijuana.
    • Be sure to provide us your references (no family members).

     

    NOTE: A felony conviction may bar you from working for a state licensed agency as a security guard or support staff. If you are applying for a support staff position, you must get fingerprinted (at your own expense) and submit a support staff application to the Department of State.

  • AUTHORIZATION FOR BACKGROUND CHECKS

    I authorize Mid-Hudson Security Consultants, LLC. (the “Company”) to obtain a consumer report(s) (or background report(s)) on me, including any investigative consumer reports from Gusto and/or Checkr. I also agree that a copy of this form is valid like the signed original.

    The consumer reporting agency (CRA) Gusto, Inc. will prepare the background report for the Company. Gusto is located at 1201 16th St Mall Ste 350, Denver, CO 80202. Phone: (415) 907-9391. 

    I understand that, as allowed by applicable law, the Company may rely on this authorization to order additional background reports, including investigative consumer reports, (1) during my employment or time as a volunteer or independent contractor, as applicable and (2) from any CRA other than Gusto without asking me for my authorization again. I understand the Company may order background report(s) under my legal name and any other names I may have used.

    I also authorize the following persons, agencies, and entities to disclose to Gusto, Checkr and its agents all information about or concerning me, as allowed by law, including but not limited to: my past or present employers; learning institutions, including colleges and universities; law enforcement and all other federal, state and local agencies; federal, state and local courts; the military; credit bureaus; testing facilities; motor vehicle records agencies; if applicable, worker’s compensation injuries; all other private and public sector repositories of information; and any other person, organization, or agency with any information about or concerning me. As allowed by law, such disclosures may contain the following information pertaining to you: credit history; public records; a Social Security number verification; driving records; military service; credentials/certifications; and verification of prior employment and education.

    If you live or work for the Company in any of the states below, note the following:

    NEW YORK: If you submit a request to the Company in writing, you have the right to know whether the Company ordered a consumer report or an investigative consumer report from Gusto, Inc. which may contain the following information pertaining to you: credit history; public records; a Social Security number verification; driving records; military service; credentials/certifications; and verification of prior employment and education. You may inspect and order a free copy of the reports by contacting Gusto. By signing the separate document called the Authorization for Background Checks, you agree that you have received a copy of Article 23A of the New York Correction Law (provided with this document).

    If hired, you are expected to arrive to work on time and as scheduled. If something comes up, we need to notified in advance. We treat every employee with respect, and we expect it in return. Our current employees love working with us as part of the TEAM.
