RPL (Recognised Prior Learning) is a tool that is used in education to credit a learner for previous knowledge and skills that have been awarded through the course of previous training or work in a related industry.
When applying for a new course, it may be possible to consider the previous knowledge and skills, and therefore reduce the workload.
It may also be possible to upgrade previously accredited qualifications into an Ofqual regulated qualification. This will then provide assurance of the standard of your work.
Some important points to remember when planning to use RPL -
- You may be required to undertake an assessment of your current skills BEFORE being registered on an RPL programme. This will determine how much time and what, if any, additional training is needed.
- RPL programmes may not always include additional training. These programmes are designed to reduce the learning time, and in some rare cases the evidencing time. If you show that you have skills, it may be agreed that no further training will be supplied.
- You will be required to provide evidence of your previous knowledge and skills. This may be in the form of certificates, CV, references, or other evidence of work in the related industry
- RPL programmes are at the discretion of the awarding organisation that will be issuing your certificate. All applications go through a minimum of 2 quality assurers to ensure quality is not compromised.
- RPL programmes may not reduce the timescale of the qualification. Some awarding organisations put time restrictions on a qualification, e.g. must be registered for 6 months prior to examination. This will still need to be enforced.
- RPL programmes may not reduce the requirement for case studies, examination or assessment. This is something that will need to be checked with the training provider.
If you think that you are eligible for RPL, or that this route would suit you, please complete the following application with as much information and evidence as possible.
One of our subject specialists will review this, and will contact you for an informal discussion, with a potential plan and quote for the cost of the programme.
Please be aware - you are under no obligation to continue with a programme after application. Documents provided as part of the application process are stored on a secure server.
You do not have to provide documents as part of the application process, but these will be required if you decide to proceed with the programme. It is also much quicker and a more accurate programme proposal if we are able to view your documents as part of the application. Please only upload the documents that you feel are relevant. Please only consider the evidence that you are able to supply.
You will be asked to provide proof of ID during the enrolment process if you choose to continue with your RPL programme. If your previous qualifications or evidence are in a different name, you will be required to provide evidence of your name change/s
