The SCC Gallery is located in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan at 813 Broadway Avenue. The SCC Gallery program focuses on Saskatchewan craftspeople and curators, though the SCC Gallery may present at least one touring/out-of-province exhibition each year.
Since the early 1980s the Saskatchewan Craft Council has operated a public gallery dedicated to the exhibition of craft. This support was considered important for craft in Saskatchewan, as at the time many public and commercial galleries tended to represent solely visual art.
The SCC Gallery continues to be committed to showcasing craft artists. Applications including visual art (painting, drawing, etc.,) may be considered if the inclusion of visual art is integral to an exhibition which has a primary focus on craft.
If you are unsure if your application is appropriate for the Saskatchewan Craft Council Gallery, please contact us before applying.
Passages by Paula Cooley & Louisa Ferguson
The Saskatchewan Craft Council encourages creative freedom and respectful collaboration. CARFAC has outlined the principles of responsible creative collaboration with Indigenous and other cultures:
1. Free prior and informed consent;
2. Shared control over process and product;
3. Acknowledgement and attribution;
4. Respect for cultural differences; and
5. Reciprocity and benefit sharing.
It is expected that all exhibition applications meet these standards in the creation of the artwork. More information on CARFAC’s appropriation guide can be found here.
For each exhibition the SCC will provide installation assistance, insurance, promotion, documentation, partial compensation for shipping, and exhibition royalties (CARFAC - Category 1). If an artist talk is agreed upon an honorarium will be provided.
The SCC regrets we cannot pay CARFAC standard royalties for artist talks or group exhibitions. Royalties for group exhibitions are paid at a different rate than the CARFAC recommendations. Artist talks are provided an honourarium. Please contact us if you would like further information or clarification on these royalties.
Artists applying for exhibition may choose to have work for sale, or not for sale. The SCC Gallery will be responsible for processing any exhibition sales and arranging shipping with purchasers. A 40% commission will be retained by the SCC on any sales. The commercial or non-commercial nature of an exhibition is not part of the criteria for selection.
Deadline for Submission: Monday, November 15 2021, 5pm CST.
Applicants will be notified of the curatorial committee's selections in January 2022.
